AVC-R problem (help)

got an issue with my AVC-R boost controller, the unit powers up but no display

a bit odd as it was working fine until i unplugged the solenoid to do a repair on the Battery try

it was unplugged for about 2 weeks to do the repair, but having plugged it back in the unit powers up

but there in no display? also the car is running really rough, possible due to the car not getting signals from  the controller?

i really need some help/information

Check your power and grounds if you have had the Battery off, make sure it's all reconnected

Thanks for the quick response, the limited info ive found also mentions the grounds

what exactly needs checking with regards to the grounds? the physical Battery ground

or all the car grounds? or the ECU ground, id assume i would have to get to the ECU to check this

also to mention, the car is only occasionally used so the Battery is on a trickle charge and has been for about a year

the Battery is showing 12.8 and 14.5 (on charge), anything to be aware of there? is it possible that although the battery is showing ok on the meter, it may not be giving out enough to power to  power everything up

although ones started surely there should be enough power to run everything including the AVCR, but as mentioned the car id idling very rough, since this issue started

Power and ground to the AVC-R also check its fuse, a power surge like connecting a Battery may have popped it

cars don't like to sit, thanks to ethanol, fuel goes off in 3–6 months it's also hygroscopic meaning you end up with water in the tank

again thanks for the help,

could you be more specific in the location of the areas mentioned

the actual location of the power and ground and also the fuse, hopefully its something i can physically check myself

the unit was professionally installed by a company, so Ive no experience of the actual location of any of the wiring or fuses with regards to the Avcr or ECU (have checked basic ECU connection diagrams on line thought)

with regards to the other thing you mention about the fueling, id agree that a really rough idle would indicate a fueling issue although as mentioned it has only started since the disconnection of the Avc r which would be a bit too much of a coincidence?

also although the car has limited use it does get turned over and brought up to temps every two weeks or so,with fresh fuel (about £10  worth) topping up the tank every 2-3 months

also occasional short drive whilst up to temps, pretty much the standard for a car that`s in storage/limited use

any further help with this at all

trace the cable from the unit and see where it ends up, make sure there is not a red wire floating around the Battery tray area

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately i cant get to the car till the weekend

but having already looked, dont think there are any loose wires in the Battery try area, as mentioned the unit was professionally installed

the only wire is the one to the plug for the solenoid connector, all covered in cable conduct so no loose or stray wires

ive thoughts that the actually two prong connector in the plug (maybe) not conducting/picking up a good enough signal, having been off two weeks and the bad weather we had there (maybe) a build up on the connectors not allowing a good connection? possibly give the the plug a good spray of electrical contact cleaner to see if this helps, at least eliminating the possibility that is the issue

any thoughts?

also as you mention the ruff running, seems very strange for this to happen all of a sudden as mentioned the is used but not regualarly id be interested to know you thoughts on this

as mentioned the car has a top up of around £10 every few months to keep the fuel fresh

The unit needs to pick up its power from somewhere, and it has its own inline fuse you need to trace the cable from the unit and find where it goes, there are any number of places to wire the power and ground from including from behind the radio or from the ignition switch

much appreciate the further advise, going to get the unit out over the weekend and as advised try finding any obvious lose or miss placed wires, also try finding the fuse mentioned

got a chance to take a look, i cant see any (in line fuse) anywhere

traced all the wires from the head unit to the loom connector and to the ECU and into the engine bay, there is nothing out of place, as mentioned the unit was installed professionally, so no issues with any of the wiring (that i can see) seems its ground into the ECU

one thing to mention that i noticed, the solenoid is clicking/buzzing which im sure its not supposed to do, and thoughts at all
