Does anyone what the bulb is for the DRL in a 2015 Yaris?

On my 2018 it is W5W for the DRL

If its a standard bulb and not LED DRL, then its a twin filament capless wedge 21W/5W - code 580

It should be this one. Though buy it from eBay in a pack of 10x, it's a lot cheaper than single.

It depends on the spec, mid-spec upwards get the LED DRL's

If it has LED it has 4 lenses in the top, if it has a bulb it has a reflector instead

Bulb DRL

Thanks for your help everyone.  I had suspected it was a 580 bulb even though the Halfords' website said it was not suitable for my vehicle. I have now replaced the blown one with a 580.

Halfords and even other online car part places are not able to always be accurate as there are so many variations even in the same car. A tip for next time is to take the bulb out and have a look.

Is it an easy job i haven't looked at the back of the light?

On the MK3 they are really easy to change, front and back.

I knew it was a 580 as thats what mine uses, I had a spare one in and checked the box for the bulb's code. It uses the small 5W filament for the sidelights , but if the lights are turned off, it uses the 21W filament for the DRL. These bulbs dont last a hugely long time as they are lit all the time the car is being driven during the day when the car's main lights are not in use.

LED DRL's tend to be fitted to the higher spec models, but mine being a basic Icon model, it just gets the standard 580 bulbs. These same bulbs are also used for the tail/brake lights, so I'd keep a few in stock in the glovebox as they will be the most frequently used bulbs if your car is not fitted with LED lights for the DRL and the tail/brake lights.

In my earlier comment I said it was W5W, which is incorrect. I just received the lights as I also ordered them, but turns out to be incorrect. 😐

Just to confuse you, I eventually received a reply from Halfords which said that the manufacturer ( I assume Toyota) said my year (2015) did NOT have a DRL.  I have ignored this and carried on with the 580.

iirc they become a requirement as Feb 2011 on all new cars that would include all Mk3's

They only started fitting DRL's to UK Yaris models from the 2014 first facelift, ie, my car was the first year to get them as standard. Yaris reg's 61, 12, 62, 13, 63, and 14 did not have DRL's fitted, they had a different style of front headlight which does not have the fitting for the DRL bulb or LED strips.

for 61 - 14 reg they used the first type of headlight and 64 - 17 used the second type which has projector style headlight bulb and also the DRL/ sidelight 580 bulb (bulb type, not LED)

Steve is right. Pre facelift, Mk 3, 2014, has the reflector headlight assembly as in his top picture.

Something I find, with that assembly, is that the top double skinned section, grey colour, not in reality, in the picture "clouds" over and does suffer minor condensation in cold temperatures, but doesn't affect the clarity of the important front section.

I did question the supplying dealer when still in warranty and was told "That's quite normal sir." So that was the end of that. It is mentioned in the driver's handbook too re some condensation.

Bring back 7" sealed beams please.

I didnt know that, I've never really noticed Yaris's older than 64 reg having DRL's, so will have to keep my eye out for pre-64 plate Hybrids with them on, but the majority of them I see round by me are non-hybrid models. So they did fit them to Hybrids from 12 plate onwards, but non hybrids from 64 plate onwards. One issue that has cropped up from DRL use, is people forgetting to turn their main lights on after dark, they drive round on just DRL's unaware they are displaying no rear lights. I tend to drive mine round even if its raining with just DRL's because the cost of replacing a DRL bulb is much less than the stupidly expensive projector HIR type bulbs, which I cant understand why they are so expensive compared to the H4 that pre-64 reg Yaris's used.

I'm hoping that the ones on the Mk3 are nowhere near as bad as the headlight lens covers on the Mk2, which were a constant cause of annoyance with the 06 plate Mk2 I had for 7 years, the fronts of the headlights started going cloudy and opaque initally over the tops of the units only covering the orange indicator lights, but as the car got older, that fogging and deterioration of the clear plastic crept further and further down the lens, eventually covering the area where the headlights shone through. I tried Mequiars PlastRx and buffed them, but every year they got worse until the MOT tester started wagging his finger and saying they were borderline to failing. So many Yaris of that generation suffered bad headlight deterioration, and it was the biggest gripe I had with the Mk2. The last MOT it had before being written off at 17 years old had just that advisory, and I would have needed to have replaced both sides before it had another MOT as I couldnt clean them up any more they had got so bad.

They are compulsory as of 1st Jan 2014, But didn't become a testable item on the MOT on cars after 2018

My car most certainly doesn't have them fitted. Mk3, pre facelift, registered March 2014.

Never any reference to them at any MoT test.

It's not the first registration date but the build date that matters

if you are not in the UK spec's vary depending on the importer

Perhaps non hybrid version has also different lights and that’s why some late models doesn’t come with drl. That was the case with other Toyota models too.

U.K. car. French built, Feb. 2014.

The MoT tester will not have build information, only registration date, 1st March 2014

Do you have a link to that regulation?

I was led to believe that 1st Jan 2014 reg applied to cars with effect from their next model Face-lift, I.e. Existing production could continue, but once a new model year was announced then DRL had to be included and that's why some cars registered after 1/1/2014 don't have DRL fitted.
