Oil Main Not Reset

Hi

I have an 08 Auris 1.4 Petrol. I have a faulty oil level sensor so would get "low oil" warning on my dash. I saw there was a way to reset the oil service maintenance light so thought maybe this would help to do. However after I did it I now get "oil main not reset"  notificationall the time. Is there any way to remove this notification? I later saw that this oil service maintenance should only be done in Diesel engines.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have the same car with same engine as yours, but I never seen "low oil" message because I don't have oil level sensor, only diesel engines of this Auris generation have, neither seen the message "service maintenance" because again, only diesels show this message...

I think your cluster was swapped with one removed from a diesel Auris, please give us more information.

Mention how long or how many kilometers you have an engine oil, but also an oil filter (may be clogged) However, you should know that there is a possibility that it is the oil level valve, because resetting the problem does not solve it. You should also check the oil pressure valve as it may also be faulty with these indications described

I think I have the "oil main not reset" message now because I attempted to do the oil service reset on a petrol engine whereas the reset should only be done on a diesel engine like you said. The question is how do I get rid of this message now?

The low oil level message I do not mind as when I check the dipstick it is fine. So for sure it must be some sort of sensor.

I have attached a picture of the oil main not reset error.

Thank you for assisting

Weird, very weird for a 1.4 gasoline engine !

You can try disconnecting the negativity terminals of the Battery for at least 20 min or more and then re connect and see if you are still gonna get these messages.

So this is the message I tried to initially reset by doing the oil maintenance reset. That I think is being caused by a faulty oil sensor as the dipstick is fine

Hi Jay,

oil maintenance interval for diesel engines, can be resetted as per manual, I don't know if you resetted it in this way.

I hope this will help you.

I remember a doing a VW car with a additional oil light to low oil,it was only complaining about the colour of the oil but the oil was clean so removed sensor and gave it a wipe and that cured it.

Hi Tavy

Yes thats the reset I did, I think perhaps by doing it on a petrol engine I have confused the system. I did not see it was for diesel engines initially or else I wouldnt of done it, I am surprised it allowed me to do it in the first place.

I know the reset is for oil maintenance interval and not low oil level. But thought it was worth a shot and might get rid of the notification. Now I have both the notifications. I send an email to a toyota dealership, hopefully they know of a solution.

If the console was changed Tavy would there be any way to tell?

Derek

Hmm yes the low oil level is a bit annoying but now this "oil main not reset" is even more annoying. Will try solve that problem as well

The car still drives perfect.

Now it doesn't matter, the deed is done, the simpliest thing you can do is replacing the instrument pannel with a second hand one bought from internet or scrap yard.

Or if you want to keep existing instrument pannel, take it to an electronist in order to identify the oil level sensor pin and put it to the ground, then it will let you to reset the oil maintenance message. "Low level oil" message would disappear too...

I can help you to identify this pin.

So, there is no need to modify the instrument pannel, you can work from outside; take the instrument pannel out, pull out the frame undo two bolts and remove the connector, connector is like this:374810414_IMG_20230515_1910336912.thumb.jpg.26201345567d7b92c519959d94f194fd.jpg

Identify the hole 22, there is not inserted any wire, you have to put there an wire with a pin and connect it to ground.

Then you can reset oil service interval message.

If appears a fuel filter message afterwards, you have to do the same thing with hole number 37, otherwise let it be. 1319760973_IMG_20230515_1908095623.thumb.jpg.b191a9b7b1a7349dc2e122388886eb03.jpg

If you change the instrument panel would the odometer reading be from the previous cars mileage or would it somehow manage to read the cars existing mileage?

I am not going to change the instrument panel but I am just curious

Odo will show the mileage of previous car. There is a way for it to show your car mileage, but it's a little bit tricky, you have to buy a blank odo chip and write it with your car mileage.

I did this many years ago for a friend with another car make.

I would recommend adding that wire and keep existing instrument pannel.

  • 2 weeks later...

So just an update for anyone in future that has the same problem with "oil main not reset". I had to take the car to Toyota for some recalls to be done. They said they would have a look at the "oil main not reset". They connected it to the ECU and there were no error codes to cleared. I am pretty sure they just disconnected the Battery or removed the circuit breaker as when I got the car back the date and time had reset and "oil main not reset" was gone.

The "low oil level" sign they could not solve as they did this as a favour and did not dedicate time to actually investigating the issue. They did explain some things, something about "the sump" but did not really follow. They said the oil is fine and it would take further investigation to resolve and obviously would cost me to look into it.

Tavy I would like to give your grounding of the hole 22 a try but after messing up the "oil main not reset" I will just leave the car at the moment haha. I can live with the low oil level faulty notifcation for now.

Just wanted to share the solution to whoever comes across this error in future.

Thanks to everyone in the feed for helping and giving advice

Thanks for coming back and letting us know how you got on

Are there other dealers you could get to look at it for a second opinion?

If your dealers are anything like ours, the level of competency and experience will vary wildly between different ones, even ones in the same franchise...!

Well the mechanic I got it off of told me its a fault sensor wire. I didnt tell the Toyota dealership this as I wanted them to kind of see if they came to the same conclusion. If I do take it to a different mechanic to get it sorted I will post what the problem was and how it was fixed.
