Driving home last night got a mystery warning on the instrument panel. Two tone buzzer and flashing icon immediately to the left of the C on the engine temp gauge. Lasted about 10 secs and didn't repeat. Could not identify any problem with the car and cannot find anything in the 2023 manual to identify a warning icon in that location. Anyone have any idea what it could have been?

What did the flashing icon look like?

That's the problem. It was so small and initially hidden by the wheel. I had hoped that it would illuminate on the next startup lamp test, but there is nothing in that area at all.

Have a quick check of your coolant level and condition, just in case it was some kind of alarm from that?

Quick check under bonnet for your peace of mind will be a good idea, although most likely the warning been related to some sort of safety thing, these latest cars are full of sensors and they do think a bit more than they should. Other warning can be if the car stopped seen the key if you by any chance placed the key fob next to a phone with magnetic cover or credit card , happened to me few times. Or perhaps speed related.

Solved! It was the rear seatbelt nanny alarm. My wife was in the back with grandson (in car seat). She was leaning over to point something out to him through his window and it must have panicked the alarm. How embarrassing, but thanks for all the sensible advice.

Thanks for the update. Who would have thought of it 🫢 I switched off these seat belt alarms on my car with Carista app, changed the interior lights how operate too. Only left reverse beep just to remind me I am in reverse as the Auris has these Prius like shifters. 👌

I was getting into the car today (in the garage so a bit of a squeeze) and as I got in there was a loud continuous beep all of a sudden. Nothing on the dashboard and it stopped when I shut the door. Not had that happen before.

On older models this usually happens when you try to lock the car and the fob was left inside or perhaps there was a door not properly closed.

Interesting. It's possible that as I squeezed in I managed to press the lock button on the remote.

Absolutely, happens to me very often. 👍

I really hate all these beeps - How are we supposed to know what they mean?! It's like trying to diagnose boot failure BIOS beep codes on PCs, except at least those have a lookup table! There's a whole section in the dash for messages from the car where they could put such information for later perusal, but no, when the alert is gone they get removed from there, if they were even put there in the first place!

They mainly just scare all my passengers thinking the car's going to explode or something. (I really shouldn't have told them they're sitting on the traction battery  )

I get something similar in the Mercedes when I have accidentally hit the headlight switch with my knee and turned it from AUTO to ON.
