Hi all,

I have Toyota auris estate 1.8 hybrid mileage 130k three months ago I changed the rear shocks obserbor so till now I have driven only 4k miles and I find out shocks are leaking again. Does anyone have this kind of experience or there could be any other problem with the car causing this.

Regards,

Re check shocks its not just water sprayed on them from the road they are actually leaking.

Then check your springs for a missing segment then if all is ok complain to your supplier of the replacment shocks.

You never know it might just be a problem they are aware of.

Hi Derek,

Thanks for your reply, actually I bought the parts from Toyota but it fitted by the private mechanic today when I call to Toyota and explain everything they said I have 2 options.

Bring the parts & we will send it to the factory they will find out it's driving fault or manufacturing fault & this procedure will take couple of months.

Secondly I have to bring the car for inspection & pay £75 we will inspect the car & will find out it's driving fault or manufacturing if it's manufacturing fault we will give you the parts free but have to pay for labour. So in both cases they have win win situation.

So I don't know what to do.

Yes you probably in a no win situation I just fit new parts from a independent supplier any make that you prefer.

If Toyota main delars ane not to far away return items for inspecftion but its probably not worth the time/hassel in doing so.

Or just go to the dealer if they have good reputation and pay them £75 to check and very likely have a new replacement shocks for free. Then you decide either pay then to fit and get warranty or use your mechanic and have no warranty. Shocks usually goes bad prematurely if they been overloaded, like jumping over speed bumps, hitting deep potholes and kerbs,  driving fast over bad roads. In normal use if they fail early means manufacturing defect. Rear shocks on these cars are the simplest designed and fitting so very unlikely imo your mechanic got the fitted wrong. If me I will go to the dealer and pay them inspection.

The worst thing, they never actually replace them.  Auris rear shocks are very easy to replace.  As easy as changing winter and summer tires.

If you already paid Toyota OEM parts, installation shocks by Toyota are not too expensive. Probably less than $150 for labour. It is held by 2 bolts, we may need torque wrench for the bottom bolts but the top one only need finger tight.
