Avensis Doors not Opening Manually due Flat Car Battery

I would be grateful for any advice over a self inflicted problem! I've been away for a month and I left the interior light on my 2009 Avensis T27 Diesel so has a completely dead car Battery. I've tried opening the doors with the manual key but without success. Does the central locking system need some power or am I doing something wrong?

Does the key actually turn in the lock? Is it turning but just not unlocking?

This sounds exactly the same as

1. Spray the snot out of the lock, work the key in the lock and turn it back and forth

2. If it's keyless use the emergency key in the lock, tape the plastic end up and use some grips or pliers to turn the key, leverage is your friend, the physical locks never get used and gum up with dust and dirt
