Rav4 limp mode fuel problems

Hi

Thanks for letting me join the forum.

I am having a problem with my 2005 RAV4, it went into limp mode about 6 months ago, dash saying fuel problem, took it to my local garage and they sugested to put some Redex into the tank, done that and it started to run fine for about 3 months, then it started with the same probem, very intermitent, my neighbour suggested a mechanic, so he came and done a  digonastic , but no logs to show, he suggested to have the fuel filter changed, so he took it away and came back saying it runs fine now the filter has been changed, and much more poke in it than it was when he took it away

so I thought great it has finally been sorted, it was fine for about a month and again it would intermittenly go into limp mode showing fuel problem on the dash.

ps:  It has had a new fuel tank fitted a year ago !.

Anyone suggest what could the problem be, or what to check out !.

Question: is there a fuel pressure sensor on the low pressure feed line from tank to filter .

Cheers

Spike

Hi

Have you noticed the problem occurs when the tank is empty versus full or vice versa?

Have you noticed if it goes into limp mode only when the engine is hot/longer journeys?

Maybe asking yourself a few of these types of questions will help identify a trend that will help with diagnosis.

I think you're probably on the right track with fuel pressure and barring the more obvious fuel pump is on the way out perhaps consider things like how air is getting into the fuel tank to prevent a vacuum forming.... maybe the pipe is (partially) blocked.

I suppose you could try opening the fuel cap straight after it goes into limp mode and listening for a hiss...

Good luck
