Hi

I have one that whistles as soon as there's a headwind. Very annoying! Any tips to stop it?

Thanks

Alan

Become an OAP and drive only on minor roads at 42mph like me!

Are you 100% sure it is the mirrors?

Masking tape can be useful to apply around suspect gaps and surfaces to create a different flow and so 'prove' that an area is at fault.

I once had a Carina II that whistled at speed and it was a slightly incorrectly fitting vertical rubber window seal (that the glass runs in).

I have this happen on Yaris as soon as i hit 30.

In my case it's the gap on the picture below.

Start driving, roll window down as soon as you hear the sound, and move your hand around the mirror until you stop the sount.

I just put some black foam there and it did the trick.

Look for any gaps in the mirror and put a small piece of tape over them and see if this makes any difference.

I had this with the mirror on my 2009 Auris. With mine it was due to some of the plastic clips holding the painted back cover of the mirror having broken off and not holding it in place tightly. I removed the cover and ran a bead of silicone sealant around the edge then clicked it back into place. That did the trick and stopped the noise.

If you are in doubt about gaps in Reb mirror cover you can fold it and drive with folded mirror and see if there are any changes. If no means not from there. Another thing to look for wind whistle is the mirror seal that insulate it from the door. If for any reason this deal is compromised then the wind will find its way into the door and inside the cabin. Or we are talking about whistle from outside.

Excessive auris wing mirror noise was relatively common up until about 2013 - search the forum for previous posts and suggestions to cure there are lots of previous threads!  I remember being told when I bought my 2014 one that the mirrors had been changed slightly to overcome the known issue and that there was a way to identify if it was pre or post change but can't remember what that was now!  If yours is a 2010 it will 100% be pre change!

I also found that my avensis had a really annoying whistle at 60mph+ which sounded like it was coming from the front windscreen.  After about 12 months of annoyance I found that taking the rear roof aerial off stopped it! Noise doesn't always come from where it sounds like it's coming from.  Different aerial, problem fixed!
