Hi Paul,

sorry I am late to the party but I think here my drama from last year can give you some useful information about springs replacement.

You can buy aftermarket as good as oem or same quality for lower price, look for KYB , can do eBay, Amazon, euro , carparts4less , many vendors. You can use this side to find the part numbers https://japancars.ru/index.php?route=catalog/toyota

and take it from there. For the rust treatment, honestly it turned to be just waste of time, although I enjoyed. The only parts that didn’t rust again in are the metal suspension beam and the cross bar. Another thing I learned from this job was that if you need to replace spring rubbers only use original Toyota, or the highest quality aftermarket possible because my cheap one were horrible and I needed to buy some from the dealer afterwards.
Diy job nicely done the car drives as good as new 👌

I'm with Tony on this one, they're not difficult to replace for the DIY enthusiast, they always tell you to replace coil springs in pairs, that is unless your car is under warranty, if that's the case it only gets the broken one replaced.

Thanks Hasan, I am assuming 20 mins per side? And did you do that yourself or garage?

And £200 TTE springs was that a pair?

I know a few years ago, but that gives me something to go on .🙂

BTW, did you sell your Tsport? I was hoping that you found a way of keeping it after all the work you put in.

Yes around 20mins per side. Is there anyone on the forum thats local to you that could do it perhaps?  Didnt have the time, even though so got some spring compressors so got the garage to do it.  Very easy, jack the rear, spring compressors on, press the springs and remove. Clean or replace the bushes and fit the new springs. The rear suspension is really very easy to work on. The fronts are slightly more involved though and you'll need to have the alignment done afterwards.

Price was for all 4 springs - i think they're still at my dads tbh, but not sure...

I think the rubbers are available on eBay, not topran rubbish. Check to see that they do actually need replacing though.

I've still got it Paul, but got someone very interested in it. Need to give it a proper wash and polish before it goes though. And I'm still not sure I'm doing the right thing...I'm sure I'll regret it..

Well it's done, the Japanese specialist at least did it when they said they would,at the quoted price.

Only driven it home so far, so time and more driving will tell.

Will get booked in for retest now.

Thanks again for all the advice, not really sure whether it looks slightly jacked up or not yet, but if they are the longer springs, then my fault for wanting it done quickly.

I did place a lot of emphasis on this before they fitted, and was reassured by them that these were definitely the correct springs.

They do look a professional outfit, with proper workshop etc, so 🤞

Good to hear all is done now. If the springs are exact same fit the car should not change height or appearance. Best to stop at level ground and take a picture and compare to pictures from before to other same spec car. If any significant difference they should be responsible and put the right springs on. My car has no difference after change but I did swapped them myself and measured before that, its slightly different when you do the things by yourself and when someone else does them. I hope it’s just your imagination about the height.

As an aside, they had a very clean looking Auris SR for sale in that nice deep blue,on a 58 plate,86k miles for £3250.

Given the current shortage and high prices of cars in general now, even older ones, that looks cheap to me.

I did have a wander round it while waiting , but apparently sold that day to a guy who chopped in some sort of Citroen, shame it might have made a good buy for someone on here maybe.

Or even me if I had looked at it much longer.

glad it sorted Paul.  Give the springs a bit of time to bed in over a few hundred miles or so, they'll then drop slightly.  In the meantime, it may look slightly higher than before.

How is the T sport doing with the new springs?
Just walked back from the local surgery and look what I spotted  at the corner of busy junction., broken spring peace 😉. Not far from where two years ago I saw another one, very common thing I mean. Could these belong to Toyotas or perhaps other cars too. I know about French ones are prone and obviously ours . Never seen ion German cars though. 👍

Seems ok on the new springs Tony thankyou.

Mind you I haven't been very far yet,but handling and ride ok ,at lower speeds anyway.

Going out for lunch on Sunday in the country side where higher speeds will give it a better try out.
