2024 MY Yaris update

Given what I know now, I am struggling to understand how Adrian Flux managed to get any kind of a quote from anyone to be honest. Kinda makes me a bit sceptical of them now... (perhaps unfairly since it is corporate Toyota that has dropped the ball here...)

Well that's a PITA for sure! Had similar a few years ago when Tesco couldn't quote me for a new auris which was pretty much same car. Luckily Toyota were best quote and they had a cashback deal. Useless since but hey ho.

My other half, who is the one buying the premier is with direct line and they've been pretty good so interested to see what they say when hers arrives in a couple of weeks.

That is not good as they could be pointing a double barrel at you with take it or leave it.

Another member is very tempted to get the premiere too. While Don is tempting me to a straight swap for the lexus UX 😇

The folks on the Lexus site, are having insurance problems with the LBX...someone mentioned NFU were giving reasonable quotes?

Since Adrian Flux is a specialist insurer, maybe they ran it through as a modified, import or kit car or some other custom class just to get you a quote

Given Edd China managed to get insurance for that ridiculous sofa car he made, and that guy with the V8-powered shed, clearly anything's possible

Keep in mind that the capacity of the battery didn't change so it would use it up sooner. In the end I don't think it would change the mpg.

I think in my case it would help a lot, which is why I'm tempted, as on the motorway I'm often asking for just slightly too much torque than MG2 can provide, so the engine has to run most of the time, building up a lot of charge in the Battery because it can't use it until I hit a traffic jam or downhill stretch.

I'm wondering if the more powerful electric motor will have enough oomph to give it more opportunity to run at those higher speeds as that could boost the mpg a lot. One of the reasons the Mk4 is so much more real-world efficient than the Mk3 is because it can use the electrics at much higher speeds - I suspect if you could retrofit the reduction gear into the Mk3 so it isn't forced to run the engine above 30-40mph then it would also be able to get similarly good mpg.

I think it would have been nice to have a higher capacity Battery, but I'm not sure if the weight penalty would offset whatever mpg gains that would bring...

The hybrid Battery on the MK4 is a newer/better generation than the MK3. I read that it charges quicker and has more power when released, that would in part explain better mpg and power.

Premiere model is listed on some insurance websites this morning e.g. Tesco 👍 Still won't provide a quote though but I guess it's progress of sorts 🤔

Yeah it's not just one thing but lots of things - The Mk4's pack is lithium so has a higher energy and power density than the Mk3's NiMH pack, so it takes up less space and is much lighter but can output more kW despite having half the kWh. It also has fewer cells which also reduces weight and cost.

Like your avatar Colin!  I got frustrated with AF when I filled out the whole pita form which harvests your information and at the end it said phone for a price.  It might be a coincidence but I got inundated with Indian call centre junk calls.

Yes. I got a call back late yesterday afternoon after a big meeting had taken place about the issue at Toyota GB Towers and some work on insurance risk assessments had taken place for presentation to the ABI. (I think that everyone got caught out by the speedy delivery of cars from France; ahead of schedule and with no accompanying communications!)

However, their quote was well over £1,000/annum and an exorbitant rate of 38.6% interest added if you chose to pay monthly! So, as usual, TIS completely blew it for me. I'll be patient now until all the info filters through to all the brokers & insurance underwriters around the UK and then just maybe we'll start to be able to get multiple competitive quotes before making a final decision.

Everyone at TFS & the Dealership are being very helpful and unfortunately, "Blue Demon" is now put to bed in a lockup around the back until common sense prevails amongst the insurance industry... (I won't hold my breath!)

There are quite a few online resources now where the Premiere Edition(s) is/are listed but they still won't quote on them just yet...

Indeed. To say that I am unimpressed by AF is a bit of an understatement...

Crikey, it beggars belief that all this stuff isn’t sorted well in advance.   They’ve already done Cross Premieres so what’s different.  Bit more power, model it on a Corolla.   I suppose it will need a committee meeting.

Yeah that is ridiculous - Somebody really dropped the ball; Toyota are normally a lot better organized than this... I never heard of something so silly as getting a delivery early causing so much hassle!

It's basically the same car so it shouldn't be this hard. It's not like the power bump is even significant!

At least they didn't just sent you off on 3 day insurance and leave you to flounder...

Hoping those involved pull their finger out and get you going sooner rather than later!

Sounds like a committee meeting from the Vicar of Dibley.

Swapping for the little Yaris will enable you to enjoy your favourite thing of all time, yanking the Turkish delight out, then putting in a Yuasa. I can help myself to a brew in your kitchen while I wait.

The other day I see a various brand new Yaris including gr 4 ready for collection in my local dealer. Mmm, fresh new cars so good. I had my eye on red Yaris icon I believe 24 plate, it has a big screen inside, different seats materials and basic dashboard instruments, like the gr4, and my first Audi A4, I don’t know why but I like these a lot. Perhaps one day…. 🚙

I wish I still had my little maroon Design as a toy but I’m not sure I’d get that past anchorwoman.

You can secretly hide my Yaris like a mistress on the side after swapping the UX. As I still would like the economy of the Yaris, will likely sell the UX and get the premiere 130.

Btw make sure there are 2 keyfobs for the UX, if only 1 get another programmed from the dealer before the swap 👍

Hey! You're taking the name of one of my previous cars in vain!

I've worked it out... With that uplift from 141Nm to 185Nm of torque, I should just about be able to leave everyone in my dust up to 30mph at the traffic light GP!! 👹

For comparison, my long gone Nissan Almera GTi was 136 bhp at close to 1200Kg. The new "130" Yaris is now 129bhp @ 1025Kg so it's almost "Back To The Future" in terms of the performance I can now get from the Yaris! 😁

(Although the 2.0L GTi unaspirated did a best 0-60 in 5.8 secs so perhaps not quite such a fair comparison!😉)

Yes clearly the Premiere 130's massive power jump will attract all the boy racers and will become a menace on the roads, cutting up BMW drivers and speeding past Audis and crashing into little old ladies all the time!

That must be why they're so hard to insure!
