This has probably been discussed before. I should have gotten the dealership to do it in February during 1st service. Tyres are Continental 185/65 R15H Eco Continental 6. I don’t see any directional arrows. Would I be correct in assuming I can put front offside rear on the front offside front ie just swap them keeping the tyres on the same side of the car ???.

That is fine to do.

On another note was not aware the 2022 mk4 came with 185mm tyres. 2023 icon & design spec comes with 195/55/16 which I much prefer a bit wider.

It doesn't* here, but does in other markets, e.g. Ireland and Europe. That's partly why I was able to downsize to 15's with minimal problems, as it was already an 'official' fitment for the car.

*The Mazda Yaris does!

Hi,

in your case with non directional tyres best way to rotate tyres is cross pattern:  front left should go rear right and front right rear left. This is for most equal wear and longest life. Done this on my previous set and they lasted 60+k miles, could easily go 100k miles, but I wanted to try different tyres.

Mine were changed front to back on the second service the the technician filled in the forms so it looked like my rear tyres are wearing down faster than the front,

At the  end of the day its down to buying 2 new or 4 new tyres at a time 4 might be slightly cheaper per tyre in the long run.

Other reasons could be:

Changing to a different brand, all 4

Changing to a different size tyre

Selling car or leasing coming to an end, so not having to spend on a couple of used/new.

I'm sorry, that doesn't make any sense to me.

Ok back wheel to front, and front wheel to rear on the same side of the car, sorry for any confusion caused.

That’s the way I always did it before Tony, but I’m not well up there on modern cars, I’m more a vintage tractors man.

Knew what you meant, think he just got out of the bath. I only have 1 trolley jack, so can't do cross rotation.

Why not Mojo, jack the car up take off a wheel, stick on your spare two nuts will secure let the jack down, take the wheel you took off and jack up the opposite end take the wheel off and stick on the wheel you took off first. Go back to the spare jack up the car take off the spare again and stick on the wheel you last took off. Repeat the process job done!!👍.

Didn't think of that! But way too long! I found doing same side way too long already - trolley jack and car jack & car wrench. Was undoing the nuts with the car wrench, then tightening, what a chore.

Thought of a bit more speedy way for next time though, after untightening the nut will use the socket spanner to get the nut off quicker. Then back on again, finally car wrench to tight the final part.

I tend to go opposite corner to opposite corner, using an axle stand, or just sticking the spare on with a couple of bolts temporarily.  I wouldn't drive it like that of course but it's fine for static.

My reasoning is that because we drive on the left and do roundabouts the same way all the time the front nearside tyre wears more than the others and the rear offside the least.

But YMMV.

Hi guys , i can give you another idea how to rotate cross reference with one jack and one stand :

first swap front left with front right jack up the car using central point near engine.
Then swap rear left with rear right again lift up the car with central point and secure with stands on the sides.
Now you can lift the sides and swap front with rear L then R side.
Job done and this is how I did it last time.
These are small cars with a short wheel base and when you lift the front side the rear wheel goes off the ground too, all you need is to secure it with a stand at its rear jack point, like  on the picture below.
Don’t forget to undo the lug nuts first with wheels on the ground, then lift up, secure, remove and swap wheels, fit nuts and tight up a bit cross ref and when car on the ground torque to specs usually most Toyota cars are 104Nm.
