IQ Air Con Compressor

Recommended Posts

Hi all hoping someone can help. Had my iq since 2017, it’s a 2009 plate, and I love it. I don’t know much about cars so I’ve always had it serviced with Toyota to get genuine parts. Prices have been very reasonable but on the odd occasion I’ve taken it to a local garage as they’ve been able to sort things much cheaper.

Just had a service and the aircon compressor is shot at. The Toyota price with labour is astronomical at just over £1k! Obviously given the value of the car I won’t be paying that. I’ve got the Toyota part number T88320-74050 and have been able to find a few reconditioned or new Denso compressors but they’re still over £300.

My question is will a Toyota Aygo compressor fit my IQ part number 88310-0H010? This is probably very wishful thinking on my part as they’re a lot cheaper but on the odd site they say compatible.

If anyone has any experience or tips with the compressor please let me know 🙂Thanks in advance for any help.

If it's not listed for your car, it's not for your car.  Only use a compressor that is listed for your car.

What exactly do they mean by "the compressor is shot", what are the symptoms?

Don't listen to anybody who tells you to remove the compressor and fit a shorter drive belt.

What is wrong with the A/C ? Shock horror, dealers lie and upsell services you don't need, did they show you a pic of a leak ?

The Aygo uses a Valeo compressor

The IQ is built in Japan and Uses a Denso compressor

I don't think they'd be compatible - I think the IQ uses a variable displacement compressor while the Aygo uses a normal magnetic clutch compressor, but don't quote me one that!!

But yeah AC problems can be a right pain in the proverbial; Effectively wrote off my Mk2 as I would have sunk in more than I paid for the car just to repair that! If it was a car I actually liked I might have considered it, but I really didn't get on with it.

Out of curiosity, do you know if your IQ has a 1.0 or 1.33 engine?

@Cyker it is a 1.0 IQ, (verified by the part No.) The IQ is 1.0, IQ2 is 1.0 or 1.33, iq3 are 1.33 Multidrive (cvt)

The pumps are both magnetic clutch, but the IQ pump is variable, 4 bolt mount and a smaller port size - The Aygo uses a different mounting pattern with 3 bolts and the elephant under the bonnet is...................

They are made by completely different manufactures

@Stivino @flash22 thanks for the replies. They showed me a whole report about the compressor, it isn’t leaking but it isn’t doing what it’s supposed to (they did give me the technical jargon). Super useful about the Valeo and Denso 😊 and yes it’s a 1.0. @Cyker I do adore my IQ so going to try my best to get it fixed for a decent price as otherwise it’s in amazing condition.
Off I go to try and source a Denso compressor 🤞🏻
