Missing thing on bottom of gear stick shifter lever?

On the bottom of my replacement gear stick shifter, I noticed the black thing that goes over it is missing. Is this normal? What is it actually called, and can I buy a replacement to pop over it?

almost impossible to work out what "black thing" you are talking about, can you show pics/example of what you are referring to ?

At a guess, that is the bottom of the gear stick

the "Black thing" will be the ball that goes on the ball end, this is usually part of the cables gearstick - someone has yanked the cable off rather than pulling the clip

That's right. It is something similar to this:

But no idea where to get one suitable for MK1/MK2 Aygo.

As i said, it's part of the gearstick, Toyota don't list it - A trip to the breakers me thinks

you could turn one up if you know the size of the metal ball and the size of the box on the cable (measured with a pair of verniers)

there is a short shift kit if you are interested

3 broken nails later, I managed to pry the old one off to put onto the new lever.
