Bigger battery in Yaris Cross?

Mystified.

Ive checked elsewhere, and the answer is seemingly the Battery is the same size as the standard Yaris hatch.  Yet magazines are still saying the following with regularity

This is today in What Car (online)

Take the ultra-efficient 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor from the Toyota Yaris, then stick it in a car with chunkier styling, and the result is the Yaris Cross. To many people, its small SUV styling will instantly make it more desirable. And, thanks to a bigger Battery, it can actually go farther on electric power than its hatchback sibling.

We talked about this in another thread, but yup, that anti-Toyota bias in the press is still going strong.

They literally have no idea how the hybrid system works, and even talk about belts and cones, even now, when everyone knows there are none and haven't been since the original Prius! You can't be that ignorant for so long without it being wilful. The lack of any research or fact checking is just inexcusable given the hybrid system is now over 20 years old and in its 5th generation.

But they'll know how many valves, HP, where the leather was made, what sort of alcantara etc. seemingly in every other marque...

To me, the press/media/whatever, have zero credibility. Just paid stooges to push a narrative/propaganda.

Auto journalists especially our British ones are not a car guys but a comedians. Long ago I understood that and only watch them for entertainment purposes, even sometimes I can’t even stand their stupidity and cut off the videos through, no no., too much nonsense. I rather watch foreign reviews where people explain about the cars in more natural way with real facts and technical specifications. autogefühl for example does a good job presenting new cars with basic but helpful tech specs. 👍

What makes me laugh is the amateur automotive youtube channels are often more factually correct than the commercial ones

I agree, when a certain reviewer on carwow was explaining about the negative points on the cross he cited having to open the fuel filler cap from inside the car and how annoying it was if you forget, maybe so until you get used to it then I imagine it will be second nature, with the review for the puma he said the lane keep couldn’t be turned off, when it’s done by pressing a little button on the indicator stalk, don’t get me started on the stick of truth, yes, no real car reviewing, but entertainment only…

My Ayxo X was the first car with the lever inside and I've not forget to pull it once so far lol.

Watching Yaris Cross videos I closed the review immediately if the reviewer said the B was for more regenerative energy. Few called them mild hybrids, too.

18 of our 21 new cars have had the fuel cap release inside the car.

Hold on, what car even has a fuel flap release lever *outside* the car?! :confused1:

That seems like it would be a terrible idea unless the idea was to donate all your fuel to the thieving scumbag society

Or are they talking about locked caps where the flap doesn't actually lock and you need a separate key to unlock the filler cap...?

I assume he means its a physical lever you have to pull inside the car rather than it unlocking/locking with the central locking.

Oh, I didn't know that was a thing!

That would mess me right up - I *always* lock my car when I get out at a petrol pump; Seen people get robbed when they go to pay, or in one case while they were refuelling! Not regularly, but one's enough!!

No problem -

Get out of the car lock it, put your hand on the filler cap cover unlock the car just long enough to open the cover then lock the car again, when full  unlock the car close filler cap cover and lock car.

TBH i am surprised anyone would try to rob a car in a filling station these days they all have CCTV on every bay and you have the key in your hand

What car has a fuel flap release lever outside the car?

A Ford Zephyr mk 4 flying pig , with a petrol cap behind the rear number plate.

A long time ago for sure, the thieves were even thicker then than they are now.

They were very surprised when pulled with a length of plastic tubing and petrol cans in the boot, that resulted in a charge of going equipped to steal.

BTW, it's a bit hot oop 'ere in't the usually frozen North, well East Midlands really, I would imagine that the balmy climes of the south east are a bit sweaty today.

Sitting here with the door open, and a fan on just to breathe really.

Fingers crossed 🤞 that the thieving fraternity don't spot the open door and decide to launch a home invasion,as our American cousins call it.

You're not wrong!! It's not fun having to leave my lovely air-conditioned car and go into stuffy humid buildings! :crybaby:

When I rule the world I shall mandate all buildings must have air conditioning!!!

Vw, they have actuators so press a button and you have the flap open. Perhaps another part to replace £30-60 quit each , the switch or the actuator.

But what's the difference betweem using a lever under the driver seat or push a button on the dashboard ? Maybe it worst that is missing a lever to open the boot from inside the car.

Ferd's have a press to open filler door and no filler cap, it uses a self sealing flap instead

Both the Yaris and Clarence both use the 177.6v sealed Li-ion, 48 cells, nom cell voltage 3.7v pack

I miss that on the Yaris Cross, but having said that, it is no great hardship, just something else 'different' to the Corolla.

So I presume the remander use the engine start/ door lock key as the fuel cap key.

I bought an after market, locking filler cap, after my (2-stroke) bubble car was syphoned back in the '60s. I hope the 2-T fouled his plugs. I was able to buy suitable aptors for several cars after.

I guess the real conversation is really about "Do an action inside the car vs. it being automatic with central locking".

My spouses Volvo has the electric button on the inside to open it, I see it as another point of failure on a +10 years old car. I guess the cable + lever would be slightly less prone to failure. My older Volvo used central locking, which is kinda equally prone to fail and it eventually did, but at least it wasnt a somewhat fake benefit.

One is mechanically linked; the other is electrical with motors that can fail. Guess which is more reliable!
