Company Fitted DRLs Stopped working

Hi,
This is my first post I am looking for some guidance. I have a 2013 Aygo with company fitted DRLs. I bought some led tail light bulbs (P21) from eBay. When I was replacing the bulbs first tried on nearside rear, as I turned the switch on there as no light but the led turned on with brake then smoke came out of the light. I quickly removed the light put orginal back and checked all lights. Now as we stand the situation is that all lights are working normal apart from the DRLs.
From the book I can see there are 4 fuses two in the engine bay and 2 behind steering wheel these are somehow realted with DRL system. I have checked all of them and they are all fine. The 5A DRL fuse in the engine bay I have also checked with a meter and voltage is present when the car is running.
I am guessing the relay for the DRL which is under the nearside headlight I should check that relay but the fuse should have protected the system or am I missing something. Hope people can shed some light. Thank you for reading.

Drl's only come on with the headlights off or in auto, engine running and the handbrake released

company fitted ?? Do you mean factory fitted ?

Edit. Check fuses IG-2, Ecu-b

Hi,
Yes, factory fitted. I am aware of how they work and suppose to come on and off. They stopped working after the aftermarket LED tail light bulb blew so I am thinking what if something faulted such as the relay for DRL.

Is this an RHD Mk1 Aygo if so it uses 1 relay 5amp fuse to feed both sides of the relay and ground side controlled from the instrument cluster aka combi meter

LHD cars are vastly different

Thank you for sharing the photo, yes it is a UK spec RHD vehicle. I am assuming I will have to remove the headlight to reach the relay box. I tried to find the relay part no. got these codes from a Toyota parts guy when I rang my local dealer but he was not sure either.

The horn and DRL's use the same relay type, so you can swap them for testing purposes

those numbers relate to the relay box terminal housings

it's more than likely the issue is with the control side - ground side signal

Relay - 90987-02012

Edit. Access is through the arch liner

Thank you for your prompt replies. From what you have told me so far would you say next thing to check is the relay as all the fuses are fine. I will see if I can get to the relay box from the arch liner I though it was a bumper off job.

Thank you much appreciated.

  • 3 weeks later...

Checked the relay but it seems to be working fine. Also, replaced with another one to test still the DRLs do not turn ON.  Running out of ideas 🙁

Are you getting power to the relay and checked the grounds ? Are the lights getting power ?

check that plug above the foglight

do you have the control ground from the combi meter to the relay (ground side switch)
