RAV4 Creaking

My mk5 RAV4 has started creaking when closing the tailgate. Noise is coming from the rhs strut. Is this an easy fix with wd40 or wd40 silicone does anyone know or should I book it in with Toyota? The noise started about a week ago with the hot weather and it is only evident upon closing the tailgate as it gets to 3/4 closed.
Many thanks.

Hi,

this is typical Toyota thing. Usually comes from the hinges and not from the struts. It looks like the struts but it is not. Have some wd-40 original not the  silicone and spray on the hinges and  open close few times. If it helps then after a while you can add some thin oil to lube better and  hold for longer.  Wipe off any excess around as it vector dark and dirty and does not look good. 👍 image.thumb.jpeg.3be9414914197d5fc502cf7236bd727c.jpeg

Thank-you so much, I’ve just sprayed with wd40 (normal) opened and closed and wiped off the residue and the tailgate is as quiet as can be.

You are welcome. Glad it helped. If it starts again , you can add some oil or grease instead . 👍
