Hey guys,

The car is 16 months old and I noticed cracks appearing on the armrest. I'm wondering if I'm unlucky one or it happens? Do you think this will be replaced under a warranty or should I start looking for some cover 😅

I never used any aggressive cleaners on it, just a leather surface wipes so I don't believe I could cause that.

I dunno but I like that gif in your signature.

Snap!

I presumed it was my watch or wife…

I take it to a hand car wash once every 3 months?

I assumed it would be a watch strap - no one wears cufflinks these days really ... 😉

James' looks very much like physical damage (watch); Luke's could easily be ...

There's no such damage on mine and I don't wear a watch - which proves absolutely nothing but ... 😉

Agree, it looks like physical damage rather than a manufacturing issue. If it was me I’d probably lift the area and superglue/ contact adhesive the edges back and hold in place with some tape.

The second post pictures look like physical damage indeed, but the op pictures might be just a cracks from poor quality material. I don’t know, just by looking into the picture, my thoughts.

Watch. Got some slightly smaller marks. Toyota may not have factored for that.

Just realised they developed exactly where I put my elbow, so it's a mix of material "quality" and some pressure I guess.

I think it’s worth asking the dealer for warranty replacement. If they vouch that great, if not then, well at least you have tried. 👍

Just a heads up, the armrest was replaced under a warranty. It cracked really badly at the end. We will see how long the new one will last 😅

I’ve had mine 10 months (brand new) and I just noticed it after leaving the dealership for my tire rotation.

I have exactly the same problem, and it is from my elbow resting on the armrest. I purchased a leather protection warranty, and they said they can't fix it. I feel it should be a warranty issue. My steering wheel, where my hand rests, also has leather coming off, and I use no hand lotions, hand sanitizers, etc. The dealer said this isn't covered by warranty either

Have you looked at Toyota Canada's supplement to the owners manual re coverage of the warranty?

Not noticed any issues on mine after nearly 3 years. Elbows, watches, cuff links (on occasion 😂).

But I'm not going to have good proper look. Though I've only got just over 2 months left with the car.

Looked. No signs.

Only wear is from the steering lock on the right upper roof fabric. Oh and various scratches on the plastic in the boot. And the pullout cover whatever it's called is also frayed at the edges. But the boot has seen a lot of action.

Yeah, I too have found this and tbh is more disappointing than scratchy plastics to me. Plastics are an issue on virtually every non elite/luxury car (and according to reviews may be finding their way into some of those too due to cost cutting to accommodate electrification +/- emissions tech costs, tho I wouldn't have any personal experience of that bracket of vehicle anyway), so making a mountain out of a molehill in my opinion.

The so-called 'tonneau cover' is a meaty piece of kit with regards the retractable mechanism, and neatly fits under to boot floor - all good. But the actual bit that you have to pinch/grip and pull feels like fudging cardboard wrapped in vinyl, and bends/deforms almost instantly with use. Completely ruins the whole ergonomics of the thing and seems like an absurd choice to cut costs, considering if you're buying a RAV4 and never intending to use the boot you're a certifiable lunatic. Vinyl wrapped plastic would have been tougher, or even if it had a plastic insert for a handle (ie within the cardboard bit). The mind boggles...

Hah, sounds like the same thing my dad's Verso has! It's got so much flex in the end part now it can be tricky to hook it into the catches on the sides to stop it retracting.

I prefer the hairy cardboard shelf used in my Yaris   (Which is also much better than the disintegrating foam shelf they used in the Mk2 Yaris! )
