Amazing guess Mike, yes it is Madeira, a village Camara de Lobos where Churchill did his paintings 🙂

It was the hill there that triggered the vague memory - glad it was right!

Yes, I looked at it again and it reminded me of pics the inlaws have of their time in Madeira.

They went into a cafe there and there were some cakes, and they all cost 5 Euros a slice except this one cake that was 6 Euros.

They asked the waiter why that one cost more.

He said "Ah, those are all just plain sponges but that one is Madeira cake".

Have been partaking of bifana sandwiches?

We used to have a Portuguese cafe around here, and I very much enjoyed their food and coffee.

Unfortunately now closed down, I don't think that they charged enough to cover everything.

Now that's an idea instead of a burger or kebab after the pub I think the bifana would go down really well. Surprised nobody has done this over here. Or maybe they have .👍
