Minimising the drain on the 12v battery

Yaris Cross 'Design', Mar 23.  I understand that there are various electronic systems still active even when the car is standing for days. Is there any procedure I can go through to minimise the drain for the standing period? And then how to re-establish 'all systems go'?

Do you have keyless entry? I believe that can be turned off from the menus, but then it kinda defeats the purpose. One thing you can however do is avoid walking near the car with your keys if you arnt going to the car. That kinda wakes it up every time

I can give you some basic tips and settings to preserve 12v Battery drain but they will help only if you don’t have any DCM issues or any additional auxiliaries installed like cameras , third party alarms etc.

First in summer days if you don’t drive at nights you can switch off interior lights so when walking around  the car they won’t be turned on. You can set your side mirrors to manual mode so they only fold with the button and not every time you lock or unlock the car. Handbrake, same set to manual mode and only be operational via the button, no need to use it every time you park if it’s level ground, just in P it’s enough. And when you are seated in the car waiting for someone for example you can keep it in ready mode in P , never in ACC mode or even worse in ON mode. When you start the car then the 12v Battery get mostly loaded and it’s a good idea once you start it keep it ON for 30 min when possible. Any short journeys less than 30 min and turning on and off meanwhile simply kills the 12v Battery.
When you are going on holiday beforehand you leave the car charge the battery with a smart charger until full and then on your return when start it keep it in ready mode for minimum of 30 minutes. Battery should be good 👍

Thanks for replies.  The car does have keyless entry. We don't have holidays but the car is regularly parked for days on end. We are mid-eighties and with health issues. Retirement flats and shared parking so I suppose this is the worst scenario for a car. It's a worry that the car will not start in an emergency. I do feel that if Kia and Hyundai can engineer a 'reset' button, then Toyota should too.

I still remember my first car - a wartburg 353 with a car battery disconnect switch 🙂

If you dont have the option of connecting a mains charger IE CTEK or simlar then go solar charger

and for peace of mind a small jump starter pack power booster pack make sure you know where you can connect it to under the bonnet in case of emergency.
