Just got pre-owned Yaris Cross Hybrid 21 reg with installed Nextbase 380GWX dash cam. Having difficulty getting it to conect to Samsung phone. Tried following the Nextbase instructions and down loaded the Cam Viewer app. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

That is the Toyota dealer supplied Dashcam.  I have one, front and rear cameras, and a Samsung phone. So it does work.

I assume you have downloaded the manual from the Nextbase site and checked that the SDRam card is installed.

I have found the best sequence to be

  • make sure phone wifi is on,
  • start Camera App,
  • press the blue triangle on the Dashcam, then ask App to find camera.

it can take one or two goes as the system seems sensitive to timing. Once connected the settings are straightforward but watching video clips is slow.

To view recordings it is easier to remove SD Card and view on a PC, though you may need a converter depending on your PC's ports. The Nextbase PC software is ok but you can also use VLC.

PS you need to reformat the card once a month, while in the Dashcam.

^Hi Red Toyota.  Tried what you advised and got a connection between the dash cam and phone app. But it seems that when I turn the engine off the connection drops out and I have to go through the procedure to re establish connection. Is this normal? Also I didn't get asked to put in the password for the WiFi. Any suggestions to put me on the right track please. Thanks. Bob81

I've just done this with the Dashcam I inherited with the rav, also a 380gw.

The app saw the camera but wouldn't connect.  The only way I could get it to work was to connect my phone to the camera wireless first, then open the app and connect.

Wifi default password is 12345678.

The dash cam only works while the car is in ready mode (ie ignition on) otherwise it would drain the 12v Battery. See other threads for a discussion on the 12v issues some owners have experienced.

It will start up if you put the car in accessory mode but you will soon get warnings about (12v) Battery running down, just like having the radio on. The hybrids will happily sit in ready mode for several minutes before starting the petrol engine to recharge the HV Battery. It is all really very clever.

The dealer fitted dash cams should come with an internal battery backup for parking mode, in case someone hits you while car is parked. These cannot power the cam for connecting the app.  Replacement packs are available from Nextbase.
