Hi

Recently bought a Corolla 2.0 hybrid from 2020 in Denmark, was made aware that Corolla in 2019 doesn't support android auto and asked the dealer about it, he was confident that this is a model from 2020 so it has both AA can ACP. I took the word for granted and didn't test AA before buying. Now I just bought an AA wireless dongle and tried it out, doesn't work, then tried it with cable and still no luck. There's also no trace of AA or ACP in the settings or menus, so I'm thinking this car never had it to begin with.

Any advice of what I could do? will the dealer charge me for the upgrade if i bring it in for the update? Is it possible to do the update by my self in case dealer is going to charge me for it?

The model is 17TDT1EU-DA01 running with 1011 software without the navigation stuff.

I had a few problems with aa to start with, turned out I wasn't using correct cable.

From my understanding there is a kit from dealers which they fit for about £100 and £50 if your having a service done at same time for cars that haven't already got it.

My 2019 has AA but only works with a cable, AA icon only shows when the cable and phone are plugged into the USB socket.

Early Corollas didn't have AA/Carplay. There was a retro fit dealer upgrade relaesed late 2020 - see

The retro fit was never intended to be customer installed - dealer fit only as the head unit could be bricked.

Whether or not your dealer will charge for the update now is between you and them.

Oh, that make sense then, this car is first registered in June 2020, if the retrofit first landed in late 2020 then I guess it never had it.

Head back to your main dealer and ask if they will carry out the upgrade for free/fee

I said I'd buy my car if they gave me AA free, but they offered to meet me halfway with the cost.  I agreed.

At the time of purchase, I told them I'd sort out its road tax, however, they went ahead and purchased it for me.  Even though I had to pay either way for the road tax but because I said I would sort out the tax, they gave me the upgrade for free.

You guys must ask for the update for free when the 3 years warranty is still valid.  I am not sure if Relax-warranty cover such firmware update.

The upgrade is quite expensive, 3000 DKK. Speak to the dealer, and see if you can make a deal.

Nothing to do with the warranty. It was an optional upgrade that owners could choose to have done or not.

Thanks you for the replies.

I took it to the dealer and got arranged a time for the update. Dealer is pretty cool with if the announcement had it written then it will get it.

The only thing i'm worried is that I didnt have a copy of the original announcement, so if the dealer turns bad and charge me for the update, then its my word against theirs, so figners cross for this to not take a wrong turn.

You are right, it is not about warranty but basic subscription that we may still have when we bought the car new.

The retrofit upgrade wasn't available when early Corollas/Rav4s were new. It was introduced around November 2020, and was meant for 2019/2020 models which originally came without Android Auto/Apple Carplay.

I'm no fan of Toyotas software. Everything is painfully slow. My Corolla is November 2019, and the dealer promised, that in a 'short time' a upgrade would be ready. It took more than a year, so our first holiday was with a Garmin device in the windscreen.

Software updates for the auto headlights auto dip function to allmost 3 years.

Toyota infotainment are generally slow until 2022 model came out. The ECU and GPU processor were updated and much faster.

I think the newest Toyota infotainment is in different class than previous years. Everything are logical, fast, connected via air update and still Linux base Auto.

@nielshm i understand your frustration with the infotainment slow processing but the Android auto update worth every penny even though the hardware is still slow. The autodip of highbeam last forever, it is not related to update of the infotainment. The same things with the rest of SafetySense2 (radar cruise control, accident avoidance, etc).
