Upgrading my Corolla

I have 2006 1.4 colour collection Corolla. Wife and daughter want me to upgrade to a newer car. I love Toyota since my first car was a Corolla. Budget is £5000 any suggestions? TIA.

Ugh. That is tough. You have 2006 Corolla which is already good production time, especially with undestructable 4 speed Automatic.  For £5000, it is better to save your money for a while until the car market go down a bit.  For today, There is nothing better than Honda/Toyota Hybrid solutions. It last very long with 15y Battery warranty and not disposable unlike any BEV.   

If you want trouble free (historically), you can get a good used Yaris Hybrid or Auris 2015 (revised cylinder rings and pistons) or newer.   If you really need an upgrade today, just get 150k miles or less Prius 2 with new Battery pack (original Toyota).  Any of them are really reliable but make sure it is well maintained and already got a new Battery pack. 15-18 years HSD is like a Russian Roulette battery problems.
