Hi drykoke yep Michelins every time mine are Sport 5's on the Excel and ride quality is excellent but shop around for pricing some dealers asking silly prices so beware. Also Michelin sometimes offer deals at some garages so you have to be on the ball here.

My old Corolla GR sport 2L Hybrid had Falkens which were were awful so swapped for Michelins sport 4's and encountered startling change for the better.

Better don’t go for 15” but instead for 16” wheels.
Your car on oem 17” wheels likely to have larger front brakes and 16” is minimum size possible to fit.

I can't see the the brakes being any different from the Van spec or the Police Spec 15" wheels. I will be popping into my local dealer to see if it is possible. The ride is so bad I just don't enjoy driving it. And I'm sure it's down to these stupid low profile tyres.

The brake discs and callipers are bigger on some models equipped with 18” wheels. In this case you can’t fit 15” wheels for sure, only 17” and perhaps  16”.
205/55 16 are the ultimate size for these cars and best performance comfort ratio, also ultra popular size and large choices of tyres, prices , types etc.

You should try a car with 17" wheels. I'm very happy with the ride quality in my 1.8 TS Design Spec fitted with 225/45R17's.

I've found the ride and pot holes not as bad as I expected on my Yaris Cross Excel but you needd to think about road noise more which is a constant. That was quite bad, although it improved a bit after I sound proofed the thin bare metal boot!

I don't get why Toyota put 18" wheel on Corolla or Camry.  It is just too much. 16" wheel is already ideal for such car. 17" for a hit fun but already hard. Unfortunately, 15" will not fit unlike in Prius 4.

Have spoken to Toyoya directly and you can put 15" steel wheels on your Corolla. Part no 42611-02R00 requiring tyres 195/65R15. Planning on getting these as soon as my old tyres need replacing.

Do you know if the 15 inch wheels would fit a 2.0 excel that comes with the 18 inch wheels. Not sure if the discs are too large?

They will most likely not.
The 1.8 icon or design specs. likely to be ok., all models with smaller diameter brake discs will be ok.

@TonyHSD they most likely would. Brake discs are similar on all hybrid Corolla versions, whatever the engine or the trim level.
