Speedometer not working

Hi All.

I have a problem with my speedometer.

A couple of eeeks ago it started to jump speeds errstically. Now it seems to work in reverse gear, but not when moving forward. Registers 0. Two electrical tests later everyone is baffled, saying they haven't seen this problem before. Off main dealers is next step. Just wondered, before I take a 30 mile trip to take it there, if anyone might have come across this problem before?

Removed the gauges, clean the plug and socket tbh dealers are next to useless on anything over 5 years old, some of the parts fitters were in nappies when that car was built
