Recently took possession of a new Corolla touring sport fitted with a Nextbase Dashcam. Had problems with the app after changing the password, returned to the dealership to get it fixed. Using their phone it was sorted and on arriving home I checked the video footage and all was fine.

The next morning on entering the car and before switching on I noticed that the camera was recording. Checking the video footage again revealed that it had been constantly recording overnight.

Removing the camera I discovered that it had a Battery fitted also it has a live feed. Looking at the downloaded manual it tells you that the parking mode must be enabled to prevent continuous recording if you have a live feed and/or Battery

Having set this up on the settings menu it seems to be working as suggested, but it took several attempts including the use of the reset button and reinstalling the app, twice.

Hi and congrats on the new car.

I too have a next base dash cam but I'd be very wary about having a permanent live feed to your dash cam. It can potentially flatten your 12v Battery as I have experienced in the past when the camera failed to switch off. Fun fact, can't start the hybrid system if your 12v Battery is too low.

In my opinion its best to have an ignition live and forget about parking mode. The Battery doesn't last long enough for parking mode anyway in my experience.

I also find the app is awful and rarely use it, quicker to take the memory card out and put it in the pc.

Yes I am concerned about the live feed. On the previous 2019 Corolla I had to purchase a Battery pack to use if the auxiliary car Battery was low as I had to leave the car unused for several weeks at a time. In the last few months I have been using a Halfords solar panel, seems to work. Will continue to use with the new Corolla. My dealership and Toyota now endorse using solar. The previous car had a Dashcam but no Battery so was not on a live feed.

I have parking mode enabled which is how I was able to get footage of the tramps who stole my cat.

it should only activate when there is significant movement to the car though.

I don’t remember any setting for a live feed.

However the real issue with these cams is connecting to them. It can be a challenge to get the phone connected and the footage downloaded.

By live feed I mean that the Dashcam is permanently receiving 12v from the car as opposed to a switched supply.

It should be a switched feed, that is only live when the ignition is on. Parking mode is OK but no buffered pre-record so you only get footage from a few seconds after any event. Motion as well as actual impact will trigger it. But, its not intelligent and will shut the camera down after a few minutes like in a drive thru queue and restart when you drive off.

Because parking mode only activates for a few mins you could use it like that on a live feed, but that's what the Battery is for...

Update on Dashcam live feed, dealership admits to mistakenly connecting to a live feed and has rectified this. Hopefully the Dashcam will now work as expected as previously it was hit and miss as to whether it would actually activate as intended.
