Looking at a RAV4

Hi all.

It's been while since I had my 2 litre petrol Avensis and I'm now looking at coming "home" with a 2014 RAV4 Invincible 2.0 diesel manual. She's covered 64K miles and looks clean and well presented.

Full Toyota main dealer service history from day 1 to June 2022 @ 54K (Farmer & Carlisle Toyota Leicester) and 2 owners (change of owner 2019 at about 28K miles)

Doing a bit of homework and I'm seeing that she has the 1998cc 91KW 124HP 1AD-FTV engine.

Is there anything in particular that I need to be keeping an eye out for or deserves a special check?  AFAIK she has cam chain so no belts to change. Reg No is FJ64YXS if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

Sounds like a genuine car Andy, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to comment on that particular engine 👍

As far as I'm concerned, those can be good engines, if well maintained. Be sure to check it thoroughly, especially head gasket, dpf filter, etc.

Depending on the mileage, you may also want to check those piezoelectric injectors, before buying the thing... Those can be very expensive if replacement is necessary.

The rest, check it just like another old diesel engine. Remember it is almost ten years old and it is a diesel engine. Be careful, otherwise maintenance can become very expensive.

Again, check it thoroughly, and wait for the other posts of other users about it.

Thanks both.

I'll bear that in mind and see what else comes up.

What's the check for the injectors? Will it show up in diagnostics/fault codes?

Cheers,

Andy

Hi Andy, yes faulty injectors will show a fault code on diagnostic test.

If you search the form there are posts re this. My daughter had an ongoing problem with their 2011 model, but I think that the 2014 model may have different injectors.
