Toyota Avensis Low Pressure Fuel Pump

I have a 2017 Toyota Avensis Business Edition 2.0ltr D-4-D with 44,000 miles that will not start. The dealer informs me that it is the low pressure fuel pump and costs £850 to replace. Toyota used Denso low pressure fuel pumps throughout the production from 2013 to 2020. Denso have confirmed that a manufacturing process of the pump causes this problem but Toyota GB will not recall Toyota models affected, yet they recall USA regd vehicles. The pump failure could put the car occupants lives at risk as the vehicle could potentially break down while travelling in the fast lane of the motorway. I have reported this to Toyota Customer Services but refuse to act because my vehicle is out of manufactures warranty.

The internet is a great tool but also a massive headache there is a fuel pump recall on "some" Denso fuel pumps however the unit in your car is not affected and therefore not included in said recall hence why you cannot have your car repaired under these recall terms.

The recall is for some models all fitted with Petrol engines and in the UK only affects certain Lexus and a few Camry's 

The pump in your car is unique to an Avensis with the later #WW BMW diesel engine, a model not offered in the US and not included in the Denso fuel pump recall.

Unfortunately had you maintained your car with a Toyota dealer you would have benefitted from a Service activated warranty which would have covered this failure.

Hi, thanks for this info. It seems to leave me with very little options but to pay the extortionate amount to have my car repaired.
