Just got a recall for the DCM to be reprogrammed this morning.

 I do hope they have got the update sorted or there may be upset customers.

This one has been floating around for quite a while now and is well known. It's a bit of an issue for the PHEVies because it may result in a flat 12V auxiliary Battery and a car that won't start. It's far less of a concern to us HEVies since we lack the range of connected services that are likely to give rise to the issue ... 😉

I’ve seen it for the PHEV but not for HEV more concerned about the issue of bricking the device, if software is not loaded correctly or have I got that wrong?

Hopefully, they practiced on enough PHEVs to have perfected the code and procedure so I wouldn't be too worried. 😉

And if they do brick the DCM what are the real consequences? You won't be able to track your trips and driving habits through MyT for a while - but that's hardly reliable in the first place. And you won't be able to remotely schedule charging or cabin preconditioning ... which are facilities that we don't have anyway! 🙂

I've assumed all along that it is the same DCM system and software across a wide range of models and that Toyota would have to get around to all 'affected' vehicles in due course.

That recall (XGG78) is one that I had... and it (or the operator) bricked the DCM. It took the thick end of a month to get a new one and the car was missing a lot of functionality without it.

* No SOS system.
* No MyT connection.
* No trip recording.
* No SatNav - well, there was but there was a massive positional offset and the car thought it was in Germany/Austria.
* No microphone, so no voice control and no bluetooth phone calls.

All goes through the DCM.

Probably worth making sure that they have a spare DCM in stock, ready to go before committing to it?

ETA: Oh, and my new DCM, which presumably has the new software already in it, is still not recording every trip. It misses some.

My PHEV was done at the second service in May, no issues. I did make sure that the 12v Battery was topped up just in case.

I had a letter for this today for the 21 plate I've just sold, the 20 plate I have now doesn't need it according to the recall checker.

Mine neither ... that could be because we have an earlier version of the system before they introduced the software error, or because they haven't yet worked back far enough to add our cars to the list! 😉

I had the recall quite a while ago, which thankfully was without issue. Although I got the letter, it still wasn't appearing on the recall checker so I wouldn't necessarily trust that.

Recall letter arrived today for my March 21  registered Dynamic HEV.

The Certificate of Conformity states it was manufactured  September 2020 so presumably some 2020 registered cars will be recalled.

Rereading the letter it describes itself as a Customer Satisfaction Campaign rather than a Safety Recall. The reprogramming is available FoC up to the end of 2025. In that light, I am not surprised that it doesn't appear under the list of Toyota Recalls.

Mine was manufactured late July 2020 - I expect to receive the letter in due course ... 😉

Customer Service Campaigns don't usually appear in the recall checker.

They did mine last year after kicking up a fuss with them. Constantly flat 12V, no matter how far and long I'd driven 2 days earlier, constantly boosting it with the Noco loco. Strange voltage readings. Was getting painful. Did the trick. Not had a flat Battery since.

We got our letter on Sat.

Hoping the "tweek" sorts out the truely erratic dysfunctional satnav.

In what way is your SatNav truly erratic and dysfunctional?

Well, apart from "freezing", on more than 1 occassion, I remain convinced it verbally instructed me to twice turn left, when the mappng clearly showed a crossroads right turn. This in urban traffic, so slow enough for time to keep the map updated and for me to look at it as well.

etc etc etc.

And, EDIT to say that the update had had already been done, more than 3 weeks ago, when she was in for her 2nd annual service.

So Toyota UK's admin bees a bit pants as well.

I'm pretty sure that I've experienced that behaviour too ... she's just got a sense of humour! 😉

Just received the recall on my HEV 2WD, hopefully they'll have had plenty of practice on the PHEVs first. Can't say that I've had any issues though 🤞

I have never seen that behaviour although I have had instructions that are late enough as to be useless, usually when leaving a roundabout and I have had some decidedly questionable routing to a waypoint that was down a track. No idea why or how but TBF to Toyota I have had eyebrow raising experiences with both TomTom and with Garmin standalone units.

On the whole I find the SatNav to be perfectly useable. It gets me to where I want to be and I like the fact that it is integrated with the instrument cluster.

Re: your initial comment, I don't think the DCM update will change any behaviour on the SatNav - other than that the latter depends on the presence of the former, and so does the microphone apparently. Who knew? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We've had satnavs working perfectly well before the advent of eSOS and DCM units so I found that a strange idea also. But the eSOS system need to be able to report your position so has probably swallowed up the GPS module and it needs to allow you to talk to the operator so there goes the microphone!

And to be fair, she usually tells you to take the n th  exit in perfectly good time, and then tells you to take the exit about 3 seconds after you've done it. It could be considered 'reassuring'.

Of course. That makes perfect sense. I hope I never have to find out if it works. 🙂

You're right about the Nav. The instructions are usually far enough ahead and the lag is really only seen in large r/bs with many exits, especially if they are close together.

Of course, there is always CarPlay nav if it is too much of a problem. So long as you have a decent data connection you're sound. It's odd when you're driving across a piece of graph paper. 😄
