Have I put too much oil?

My Avensis is around 48400 km 2012 model gasoline t27, last owner changed the oil  at his toyota service in 2021 then it was around 41-43000 km. I felt the accelaration slowed down around hills + car felt kinda weaker to drive overall. So checking the oil it was on its area but not much left , thought I pour a liter to the next service which I decided around autumn this year.  Car feels so much better to drive, no gas or smoke from the exhaust, infact none at all, no burning smell either. But  when checking the oil with a dipstick it seemed way over it , can 1 liter really cause this much? to a car who hasnt a oil filling in almost 2 years? its 0w20 oil .  I did what car instruction book said and these are the results I got. I hope anyone can answer cause this is driving me crazy

Take dipstick out, wipe it on a rag to remove all the oil and then reinsert. Wait a few seconds and gently remove and you should see the true level without any oil splash.

An engine overfilled with oil is not good for engine seals, i always heard, u can't just add a litre of oil and hope it's ok, add oil slowly a little at a time checking the dipstick regularly until the level is at the max on the dipstick.  U need to loosen the oil nut on the bottom of the oil sump and let some drain out until oil is at the maximum level on dipstick, by the looks of ur photo's u are over the max filling point.

I have overfilled with oil a bit and run my car on occasions with seemingly no ill effects but I know it's not a good thing however if you're sure and you're worried you can easily remove some with those oil suction pumps and they're a handy tool to have

Hi Louis, it certainly looks like you've added too much oil.

Make sure that the car is sitting on level ground and been not running for at least 15 minutes to allow the oil to settle back into the sump.

Recheck the level as previously said by removing the dipstick, wipe clean and put back in, remove an check the level.

If it's too high as shown in your pictures I would use a hand soap dispenser pump and a length of windscreen washer tube put down the dipstick hole and pump away the excess oil into a container until your happy with the level 👍

you can buy a pump from Amazon, i bought one and its like a miracle, i used it twice already, ones i took all the oil out it was 6.5L, i thought to put the same as it was but i end up with 6.5L , and put back 4.5L fresh 0W20 oil till the max line on the stick, i drove all the time with 2L more whiteout even knowing, the oil pump its   a must to have!!!

changing all the oil takes you 5min, i change it every 5000km alone (without the filter), and every year (every second change) with the oil filter.

You can’t just add 1ltr of oil without checking oil level and hope it will be ok. You just overfilled the level most likely by around 0.3-0.4ltr.
Looking at the oil at the first picture, at the bottom of dipstick seems to be very dark which will suggest sludge forming at bottom of the oil pan.
Are you in a hot country? Another interview fact is that the has consumed some oil for a short period 43k then at 48k.
If it’s me what I will do is buy a syringe with tube, suck out some oil just to be below the max mark. Buy new oil and filter and engine flush.
Run the flush and replace the oil with new. Add slowly and regularly check oil level not going past max mark. Re check next day at level ground.
Sometimes and particularly in circumstances like your best for your car is early full oil change instead of adding oil.
Good luck
