Hi

I have bought a Auris Hybrid 2011 with some problems.

My main problem is that it do not start

I connect Battery and thing looks ok, push start and then everything gets black and dead.

Light on start switch is not green, orange I think. I have tried with key beside the switch also.

I do not have brake light, circuit on brake switch looks ok. I think other lights works.

All fuses in engine bay looks ok, is it other location also?

Hybrid batteri is over 50% on display.

I got half tank with new fuel.

My Foxwell obd no not connect and can not read.

Any suggestion where to start fix this?

Not my first Toyota, but my first Hybrid. Mostly diesel cars I fix.

Thanks

I am not sure what kind of car history you get. Is it a Salvage title car? Has it been in accident, flood, or something terrible before?

If you have a powerful scan tool like SnapOn or Techstream, then you can work with it.  Other cheaper alternative is Veepeak with Carista App.

Hi

Car have been stored in 6 mnd, but ower have started the car every 4th week i was told. After that did it not start, Toyota dealer used 3 hours on it. Only conclusion was that brake pedal did not have signal. Owner stopped fixing it and want to scrap it.

Then I bought i very cheep, registration is ok, just need a Mot.

I will try to replace Battery in key also, but dont think this will help.

Only 1 key also.

My Foxwell is good diagnostic, but I will try another also.

There is probably something else that the owner didn’t mentioned it but most like been warned by the dealer. Perhaps a switch, fuse or relay that needs attention. You may want to visit Prius chat us forum and search for similar issues on Prius cars, they are basically same technology.
Good luck.

You can remove the key Battery completely and the car still can start by putting the key next to the start button. It works just like transponder, not smart key.

I think you are dealing with a big thing. The best easiest things is towing the car to dealership and ask for complete diagnostic with complete estimate of repairs.

After that you decide should you try fixing the problem yourself or use it as a  spare parts.

We know that if the car never starts for a long time, it need emergency hybrid Battery charging per TSB. That's why we should turn the car for 30 minutes every 2 months if the car is not used.

Check any sign of flood damage like waterline, or mold smell. Brake actuator and ECU, ABS, VSC related issues are not cheap in hybrid. Just make sure it is not caused by accident or flooded.

If it is actually a salvage car, don't put any money on it. Just scrap it as spare parts. At least the catalytic converter worth £500 or more.

I think Foxwell OBD2 will not read specific Dealership Level Error codes.  I found only CARISTA Apps can read Dealer level error code.  Some codes auch as C1254, and other C codes in Toyota/Lexus cannot be read by generic software like Torque Pro or Dr. Prius.

I suspect it has failured Brake ECU or something related to the wiring cables.  If someone ever work on the dashboard, pinch one of the 1000 small wires under the dash, the car will never start to READY mode.  Don't ask me why I know it :-).   I replaced the AC evaporator on my Prius 2, everything goes well until when I put the dasboard back.

It was 14 hours gamble trouble shooting in my case.  I paid $1300 to the Advance-Mechanics in Import Authority, FL and they  take the 14 hours deal.  My car was in Import Authority shop for more than 2 weeks. They guy finally found out the culprit but he still regreted that deal until today. One of the gray wire was pinched right under the metal bars where the steering and dashbaord mounted.   Since then, the car bug down again for  1 more time, they solder the wire and protect it better and never have any issue again until It need a new hybrid Battery because it was 12 years old and parked under the sun, not powered on for more than 1 month too.   Buy a used Battery for $800 and sold the car within 1 month meanwhile the used Battery has 1 year waranty.  I know if I kept that Prius 2 longer, I will get another headache that I am not willing to spend more.

The guy who sold the car to you is really clever and smart.  Without getting full information of the history of the car repair, it is almost impossible to fix such problems.   You should get as much as information and commited not to blame the seller. YOu only can ask for complete honest information to solve the problems but nothing else.

Thanks for the input.

I know some other diagnostic computer from a garage I will try and maybe Carista.

I paid 115£ for a complete 2011 Hybrid Auris so I dont think it's possible to loss money on it.

I just dont want to use a lot om money one the car before I know it will start.

Go to a Toyota dealer is not a option, I will try to learn some of this car.

I will talk to the dealer and ask about the last diagnostic if it's some information there I can use.
