Are you able to record the rattle it makes when driving uphill?

I have to do the video in a better way, it will be posted, it's a promise 😄

Guys you don’t need to worry about your cars rattling or anything.
The OP engine  sounds healthy and some rattling from this springs are pretty normal and won’t cause the assembly to fail or any trouble.
If you get those nasty metallic loud knocking like on the previous video with the white Prius then you need to investigate and fix the problem which can be either egr blocked, injectors or bad fuel, or other reason for misfire.
Here a video to hear the springs rattling, this is not an issue and with the time all hybrids will start rattling because the springs will get tired.
My car is rattling the normal one and even sometimes does the loud knocking, it’s an old car with a lots of miles so to be expected.
Egr was cleaned recently, fuel is top tier , i service on time everything by myself and I am not worried about these little things. No need to worry about something that is normal for these cars.

yep! the sound is a little weaker, not like the video, but it is very similar...

however I'll make a video to compare and let you all know the sound under the hood , hope to help someone with the same panic 😆

Is there a way to reduce the stress on the clutch springs?

It is quite an amazing and clever system - It is, to my knowledge, the only automotive transmission that doesn't rely on friction to transmit power, and is always synchronous - Every part of it is always locked/meshed together all the time!

It was a stroke of genius to use a planetary gearset as, effectively, a differential to connect all 3 motors and just control and blend which are acting as input and output purely by their rotation relative to each other!

You can.
General rule starting up from standstill in ev and then smoothly with not full power wait for the car to switch to petrol and then you can push it to go faster full throttle if you need to.  If you push it sharply from the very beginning you will hear thud , this is when the springs are maximum compressed. More often you do this more stress the springs has to take plus not only them but all engine and transmission mounts.
Sensible driving and maintenance on time are the key for long and trouble free motoring 👍

So will you go any further trying to have it repaired or live with it?

I'll live with it, the repair is not necessary

Okay.

Do you think your local Toyota dealer can help?

I mean under warranty the Relax Garantie 10 years? You have that in Italy?

It's not an engine or car problem, so what warranty can I have? 🙂

in Italy we have the Relax Plus, 15 years mechanical/hybrid problems and 10 years for the Battery

And a clutch damper is not covered?

I know your dealer will say it’s normal but what if the rattling intensifies and get worse?

May I ask do you drive smoothly or with a lot of accelerations through the EV ICE transition?

Read the other messages, I have described the rattling I hear in some circumstances

@TonyHSD illustrated very well the noise and how the ECTV works

in a minute I'll update a video from the hood for my rattling

These sounds like airplanes ✈️. Perhaps a full length video will be better. The engine sounds ok to me. Some minor rattlings are normal.

The full video is about 4mins and only at that point cutted I have the rattle (changed gasoline station, ev Battery completely charged)

I can try to make a video inside the car with ev Battery not completely charged

Hi Tony

Do you know how much rattling is accepted? Since it happens to most hybrids over time it would nice to know when one should take action and respond to it?

 Thanks!

Hi,

I can’t say for sure but unless obviously broken anything on the car better not to touch it. Just do the regular service, maintenance etc, drive sensibly and you won’t have any problems. If damper clutch gets broken or the springs you will defective notice rough engine work and event hybrid system malfunction warning on the dashboard.
Here for example when you need to work about and replace parts. Your cars doesn’t sound like that.

It would be interesting to see and clean the EGR

the rattle decreased much more with another gas station...maybe the rattle is from the EGR and not the springs.....? 🤔

But you made the EGR test Tony advised?

You didn’t hear any ratting in that test?

There is something that is important to note here so no mistakes are made while diagnosing the issue.
The rattling comes from the springs but as a result of engine misfire which can happen because of the following reasons:

blocked egr system

bad fuel quality

dirty fuel injectors

Fault in the ignition system, spark plugs , coils,

head gasket leak and coolant entry into combustion chambers

could be even more factors

sometimes the timing chain can also rattle and produce similar noises, this could be because of bad timing chain tensioner or vvti sprocket. , vvti solenoid or even dirty oil.
I believe your cars are good , you don’t have obvious reason to worry about, the mileage is not so high , perhaps after are 150000km you may think about looking into egr cleaning etc.
