Picked my cross up this morning,

Well, I’ve finally got it, collected our brand new yaris cross this morning, I’m impressed, drives nice, easily got used to the automatic no problem at all, I was a bit concerned regarding the noise, but tbh, it’s no more noisy than my puma, obviously I haven’t driven it far so can’t really comment too much but it seems lovely, I did embarrass myself however, after we left the dealer we called into our local garden centre for breakfast, tried to lock the door using keyless, it just beeped at me, checked all the doors and windows, nothing open, but it still wasn’t having it, even tried the key but no, called the dealer but the salesgirl was with another customer, however the chap did suggest not leaving the other key in the car…!!,🤪, soon sorted when the missus went far enough away so it could be locked, still, lots to learn and have got to find a quiet road so her indoors can have a go…

Congratulations and many miles of happy motoring. You will have great fun learning stuff about your new Yaris X. I just learned yesterday that the rear wiper activated during wet weather when I engaged reverse gear.

I don’t suffer from insomnia, but I lay awake for hours worrying I might catch it……

I've actually read through the manual twice while waiting lol.

Still got time for a few more read throughs before september.

I picked mine up 3 months ago Alan and am still finding little things that seem different to the Corollas I have had. And yes, I only discovered the rear wiper thing a few days ago! On balance, I prefer the Yaris Cross to the Corolla. Enjoy your car.

I was set on getting a C-HR. Test drove both and it was clear to me I'll get the Yaris Cross

Took the mrs out tonight for a quiet test drive, went up to the old John Lewis site and she drove around the car park for a bit before her confidence grew and she drove home, she really likes it and, as myself, soon got used to the auto, might be a bad thing though, I’ll never get to drive it🤭..

Cyker complained about noise but then I tried a couple of tanks of Tesco high grade as folks here recommended. I believe Cyker uses this potion and let me tell you it sounded awful.  I called at Shell and started pumping V Power until the price displayed on the pump 35p a litre over regular so sacked that and went and paid the confused looking cashier for the 0.9 litre.  Went back to Texaco Supreme and within minutes the engine settled down.  The point is, they can sound quite different depending on the fuel so experiment a bit.  Enjoy the car, there’s a lot I like about them.  You will find there are two live glow worms trapped above your head but you can set them free and put some leds in.

Yes the car was filled by the dealership with the nearby Tesco brew, I never use supermarket fuel so will be filling up with Shell or bp, ect,

Yeah I tend to use Sainsburys as it's the closest and cheapest to me, but it does give quite an agricultural engine note!

I haven't tried Texaco super yet, will have to add that to the list, but so far in my tests the Esso super has been the quietest, followed by Tescos super with Shell V-Power being surprisingly similar to sainsburys/morrisons/tesco regular in terms of roughness. Everyone's regular E10 has been pretty similar/indistinguishable to me so far.

I nearly tried BP but it was so eyewateringly high I went over the road instead... (They were charging nearly motorway services prices!  How do they get any customers!?)

If the reason you haven't is because you think its of a lower grade etc its not there is no difference between supermarket and Shell, BP etc the only difference is additives in the super unleaded E5, i use Tesco momentum 99 (E5) in both  my cars.

Is supermarket fuel the same as branded fuel?

It’s worth noting that all petrol and diesel sold in the UK must conform to British and European standards. Therefore, they all work in the same way and if you combine fuels from different sources, they would all work without an issue. The fuel you find in supermarkets has the same regulations as premium sellers. And they’re held to the same quality and safety standards. So, although it’s cheaper, you can be reassured that you aren’t purchasing a harmful or unsafe product.

However, there are differences between the fuels you can buy today when you take into account the additives that are sometimes added.

Yes I know that all fuel is the same at source, I have had a couple of bad experiences with supermarket fuel in the past, on my last car ( puma) it did run slightly less mpg than if I used a branded fuel, where we live we have a Tesco and a bp less than a mile from each other with quite a margin in price difference, I travel the other side of the city and fill with Shell which is the cheapest , even undercutting the supermarkets…

Did you not liked the Tesco 99?
I use exclusively this fuel from my local Tesco and it has been the best petrol for my car , the lowest engine noise, the smoothest drive and transition between ev and ice plus great economy.
I do try sometimes esso premium, Shell v power  99 or bp 97 and I can’t find being anything better than the local Tesco although more expensive 10-20p a litre.
But here is the important thing, sometimes I use Tesco momentum from different places and the car feels like its on e10 instead, slow and moody plus this nasty metallic noise like if there is no oil in.
I think best is to find the garage and fuel that you feel your engine works the best and stick with them. This is what I do, my nearby Tesco is my charging station, always go there. Btw this garage was closed for 6 months and they had replaced all fuel tanks which seems to me like another good reason to stop by.
From the E10s petrol the best for me is from local BP.

Yeah, there is definitely some variance in the fuel between different pumps, even between the same brand!

I tried Tesco and Costco, I have feeling that my yaris perform different.  I don’t know why but it may be just my own feelings. Costco “feel” less power and less mpg. Now I avoid filling at Tesco, the guns are terrible and always can’t hold the trigger to deliver petrol.

I gave it a chance to try it over two fill ups and I didn’t notice any difference in consumption or performance but the engine had a proper growl.   I can get Texaco Supreme on my way into work so I’m content with that for now.  I can hear Tony Blackburn again 😉
