Yaris 4 Front LED Lights assembly maintenance.

I was discussing with a friend about LED front lights against halogen ones.

If LEDs are surely better during the night drive,  the halogen ones are cheaper to be maintained.

The issue is: if a LED burns on MK4 Yaris, is there a chance to replace it or you can only replace the full front light unit ( that usually is very expensive ) ?

Looking my Yaris I see thta the front glass is joined to the reflector body with clips and screws, so probably thr unit can be sisassembled and reassembled without destroying it.

Moreover the LEDs emitters seem mounted in a replaceble block like custom lamps.

So is there a chance that, in case of problems, only defective parts can be replaced ?

LED bulb life is measured in '000 of hours so 🤞 may well last the life of the car. My MX5 Mk4 has those adaptive LED lights that sense oncoming traffic, corners, no street lights and turn and swivel as needed. Amazing to drive at night.  However they are close on £1,000 each to replace 😳

Yeah, the LEDs *should* last the life of the car (Operative word being *should* - Some manufacturers over-drive the LEDs which shortens their lives significantly, but thankfully it seems most of them have stopped doing this now...)

Because of the lack of E-marking or replaceable LED 'bulbs', LED lamp units are considered a single part and are usually sealed and not designed to be user-repaired. Often they are glue-sealed for weatherproofing so opening them up can be a bit tricky without breaking something. I'm not even sure how you could order the internals separately as they don't have part #s AFAIK.

It's an amazing get out that word "should". Not unlike "up to".

The high level l.e.d. brake light on mine failed , well 3 out of 5, l.e.d.s expired for whatever reason.

It's easy enough to change but beware, the Toyota light assembly is £100 ish.

I'm now awaiting the rear light l.e.d. string to pack up on one or the other side. The complete lamp assembly has to be changed. I dread to think how much that costs. Also, a wonderful design feature, the rear bumper moulding has to be released to access a securing clip behind.

I replaced the LEDs in my high level brake light when it failed. There's a post somewhere here how I did it.

I saw that Bob and also videos on that Tube site.

I would have probably made a Horlicks of it and have to buy the complete assembly anyway.
