Hi all.:driving:

I had a test drive off a 2.0 GR-Sport yesterday and was most impressed.

I wanted a drive off a 2.0 litre as I would be moving from a 2.5 is 250 so did not want to drop to the 1.8.

The car seems good and I liked it a great deal and will have one, if it's the sport or the Excell makes no odds sport would be first choice but will see what I can get.

Alas this will not be until march next year as need to get finances sorted first and get money on a better footing.

The Toyota dealer was very good not pushy when explained what I wanted to do he showed me the boot and no spare wheel/ space saver and then told me they do not get one and you don't need it anyway.

I said well after 3 punches 2 being pot holes blowing out tyres and one on a boat ripping side out off tyre I want a spare.

I kept quiet on this as I know it is doable and have seen fellow owners have achieved this so it would be a must / first thing to do when I get mine.

My dad has 2.0 GR sport, it’s a lovely car (ash grey, side steps, upgraded seats & wind deflectors), he bought the spare tire kit from Toyota Direct parts website. Fits nicely under the boot floor.

I too have the 2.0 GR Sport in Ash Grey. I opted for the JBL with leather seats. Well worth every penny. A absolutely love the car.

It does seem like a lot of dealers are very averse to deviating from factory spec - My one insisted 15" rims wouldn't fit my Yaris, despite it being a standard fitment in every country except this one, and none of the ones I contacted could even find a part number for them except for PartsKing!

These new gen cars are amazing tho' - All the work they put into the TNGA platforms and new drivetrains has really paid off; I can't think of the last time a new generation vehicle had such a massive change and improvement over the previous models. Usually there are small evolutionary changes but rarely something this dramatic. It's been a long time since normal Toyotas had such good handling characteristics and driving dynamics! Toyota deserve to be proud of what they've made.

This is the first 'normal' Yaris I've been able to throw round a corner at speed without it feeling all roly-poly

A matter of opinion, but not one which I would agree with.   My first VW Touran was a 7-seater - no spare of any form. I carried a full sized spare in the boot, but it was always in the way. So, four years later I changed to a 5-seater Touran with properly stowed full sized spare (had to order one as the 5-seater did not come off the production line as standard).

Cannot say that I am entirely happy with my CH-R having no form of spare - doesn’t even have a jack - although I believe the under-floor of the boot can have its “service tray” changed for one to accommodate a space saver.  Might consider this, subject to whether-or-not I decide to change back to ICE.  If that happens, a model with a full sized spare as standard will be a ‘must’, and I would widen my range of maker to meet that criteria.

The spare also makes it much easier to rotate the position of the wheels to even out tyre wear.

Pop into a Mazda dealer, as they are selling the same car but with 15" wheels as standard. Maybe they can supply a full size spare with the 185/65R15 tyre size fitted to the standard 6Jx15 ET45 5/100 54.1 rim.

Oponeo and mytyres are both listing the correct specification 15" steel rim for the Yaris/Mazda 2.

Alcar 7616 6Jx15 ET45 5/100 54.1 steel rim

Cheers, but thanks to PartsKing I got the right code (42611-K0170 if anyone's interested!) and was able to have a local dealer procure and fit them. When I gave it to them, the parts guy was like "Oooh, it's under the ireland and hungary sections, that's why it didn't come up!" :rolleyes1:  (This is why I keep praising you PK! Your parts finding abilities are second to none!! )

Amazingly the rims were just over £40 each - Much cheaper than the Alcar one you listed!! I was amazed, since some junk yards wanted £40 for nasty rusty 2nd hand 15" rims!! They've already broken-even cost-wise, with the money I've saved on tyres vs the 17" rims. I suspect it's saved me a chunk of fuel too, seeing as I seem to be the only person here with a Mk4 who's regularly in the mid-high 70's mpg!

I always wondered how you managed to get that sort of mileage. Do the smaller wheels affect the speedo reading??

Only the rim is smaller, the tyres are 'bigger' to compensate so the actual size of the rim+tyre is almost the same as it is with the 16, 17 and 18" rims. I think it's like 1% different so at 100mph the speed is 1mph out

Of course. I forgot about the tyre aspect ratio.
