Manifold change - not under warranty?!!

Recommended Posts

Posted

Toyota Verso diesel 1.6 2015.

Just under Toyota relaxed warranty.

Engine light on and off requiring multiple diagnostics- previously given all clear.

Latest diagnostic:

Needs new manifold and oxygen sensor due to wear and tear related to poor driving/dpf useage.

It won't be covered by warranty.

The dealer cost is £1700.

Car only worth £5500 and has just passed 100,000 miles.

Any advice what to do?

I would get a second quote from a trusted, local independent... Might be a lot cheaper?

Assuming you like the car and would like to keep it?

I'm fascinated abut what has happened to need to need a new manifold. Oxygen sensor yes, maybe, they do pack up - but the manifold????

Can it not just be cleaned - a "routine" on a previous car I owned and dead easy to do although very messy. If it's cracked or something like that then surely that's not wear and tear but if it's just full of yuk then what stops it being cleaned?

Ask the dealer for a fully itemised breakdown of EXACTLY what they want to do and what makes it necessary for them to do that.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Andy.

PS Have you seen the diagnostics, Codes, etc.?

If repair is the last option check dealers that sell bmw/mini parts. The manifold is much cheaper there maybe. That's the BMW N47C16 Engine, so most of the parts are from Mini/BMW. But it should be possible to clean the manifold from soot. If you have the Euro6 version there are some swirl flaps inside the manifold which can be broken.

Intake or exhaust manifold ? Does it have an intake runner code, these are common on the WW engines, this will cause o2 issues

@flash22 With runner code you mean that swirl flaps I was talking about? They were only used at the Euro6 version. We have to wait for OP to clear that question. 2015 was the switch from Euro5 to Euro6, I think month May?

Yes, They usually get fouled with soot/carbon, and it takes the motor/sensor out if not rectified, i know BMW went from the N series to the B series engines in 2014, but I'm not sure if Toyota updated the 1WW at the same time

timing can be odd with the Euro specs you may get an early euro6 in late 2014 other times it's right up to the cut-off date, also the actual build date and first registration can be months apart

I'm sure if you go into a Toyota parts department, they can pull the spec of the car from the EPC, my Offline epc does not have that data
