I have a moto g6play phone which I have now found is not supported by Toyota via android auto. When I bought the car the sales guy couldn’t get android auto working, I now know why, but he did manage to get Google maps to work. Unfortunately, his has now stopped working. Does anyone know how to get Google maps working on my car system without android auto other than me buying a new phone?

thanks

Tom, can you confirm this is a wired connection that you are trying?

There is one possibility though I am not sure it is true if you get Google maps as Google maps is what you get with Android Auto!

That possibility is that your car does not have Android Auto installed.  My MY19 Corolla did not have the AA software installed until Aug 20 at a cost of £70.

Thanks for you reply. I have tried wired and just bluetooth. Other phones work with the car via android auto, just not mine.

Android auto is a USB only, you need a decent cable to make it reliable like an Anker cable - some oem cables can be charge only or data only

I take it you have an up to date AA app on the phone

roy, the Mk4 had AA and AC from first release

Well that seems to nail it.  It's your phone.  Different issue but my original phone would not work with my hearing aids.  Solution was to buy on that does.

My Huawei worked with AA but after their little spat with the US their new phones are no longer capable.

Strangely I did manage a wireless connection with my Samsung A14 though next time I tried it did not connect.  As I need to charge the phone anyway it is no hardship plugging it in.

Bob, as I mentioned, Toyota don’t support my phone on android auto. I was trying to find out if there is another way. Google maps was working, not via android auto, not not anymore

It's not a case of Toyota supporting it (that list is a 12-18 months out of date and far from extensive), AA is a standard no matter the phone or device, Google maps is hit and miss make sure It's up to date

make sure your phone is up to date, also turn it off and back on again (the amount of issues a simple restart fixes is unreal)

Not true,  aI run android auto on my Sony Xperia 1 III wirelessly. My phone doesn't even leave my pocket.

Edit: I stand corrected, see reply below. Apologies.

Make sure: Actually, ignore the below I've just googled your phone - it was released in 2018, runs Android OS 8 upgradeable to 9, it won't be supported because its software is too old I suspect. You could look at flashing the firmware on the phone such as LineageOS which would allow for later android versions.

---

* The phone software is upto date (Google Play Services, Android Auto and Maps). You can double check this by going to the play store on the device, in the top right select your avatar, then 'manage apps and device', and 'update available apps'.

* The phone firmware is upto date, usually you go into the phone settings, and check for updates, this is usually done OTA automatically.

* Make sure your android version is supported, I would suggest at least Android version 11 (Settings -> About Phone -> Android Version).

* Make sure the firmware on the car is upto date, again this should be done OTA and likely already been done if you've had it at the dealers.

The Touch2 gen3 does not support wireless AA, but the 9" Connect does, OP has a Yaris Icon

Please don't take the information out of context
