Ambient Lights / Wireless Car Play

I read on here about the Ambient Lighting modification on here (sorry, can't give the Author "Bonus Points" as I cannot find the article again!) but luckily I remembered his instructions.

Under £10 for the parts.

I took off the passenger side plastic guard under the glove box and connected a 12 LED blue strip, I connected the leads to one of the floating plugs.  I undid the two screws holding a similar guard on the drivers side and did the same. The sticky stuff on the strips was particularly useless, luckily I had a roll of 3M tape the right width which did the trick.

I also added the LED in the small tray just in front of the gear lever.  Small 5mm LED in a holder, again, there is an illumination socket handily in place.

The "spot light" effect on the small tray is not so obvious to the naked eye, my iPhone camera seems to boost the effect.

First pic is what the eye sees in the footwell, the second pic shows the LED strip holding the camera down low.  You cannot see the strip in "normal" sitting positions.

The lights come on with the room light and fade out after 15 seconds.  However, if the ignition is turned on, the lights stay on as long as the car ignition is on.  They go out immediately on leaving the car and locking it.

Whilst I was fettling, I added a Wireless CarPlay module.  As you can see in the pic of me holding it, it is a small unit. I've stuck it in the small tray area next to the power socket.

AliExpress CarPlay module <£40

You can get iPhone only or iPhone+Android versions.

Not a bad afternoon's fettling.

NEXT : Upper Boot Shelf.  Side panels already have the necessary lip / hold point; I just need to make a template and get some ply.
