It is not a pain if we do it right. All those tools does like to be charged continuously. So disconnect it once it is fully charge right away.

For cars, like Prius or RAV4 PHEV, the AC and heat pump can be set automatically on and extend the life of the Battery tremendously.  Tesla also ok if you leave it  plugged. The Wall outlet supply the cooling and all kind of Battery management for you.

Just park in the garage unless you have solar panel on the car to keep the Battery in ideal temperature.

We have 15y warranty on battery because UK is blessed with cloud and rain coverage the whole year.

As mine is hybrid I cannot plug it in  I think the 15 yr warranty is for the lithium hybrid batteries not the utility Battery, correct me if I'm wrong

Yes, only the hybrid Battery either Li or NiMh. The 12V Battery is always only standard warranty 3y i think.

Normally, it last really long. The AGM Yuasa in the trunk last at least 8 years under normal driving.

I have wondered just how long it would take the traction battery on a hybrid to self-discharge to the point it wouldn't start the engine if you left the car laid up for a very long period? I'm guessing it would be years rather than months? I can see there being some 'interesting' Prius barn find videos around in 30 years time where people try to jump start the traction battery from an EV!

I'm not sure TBH - I know it's quite a long time as the traction Battery contactors are completely disconnected when it's off, so there's no parasitic drain like you get with the 12v, which is permanently connected.

The newer lithium packs will do better as they have a lower self-discharge than the NiMH packs they favoured using before, but the NiMH packs tend to be higher capacity (e.g. the Mk3 Yaris uses a 1.3kWh NiMh pack, while the Mk4 uses a 0.7kWh Li+ pack!) so they have more charge to get through.

I would wildly guess they'd last 6 months to a year, but not multiple years, before they'd drain too low to crank the ICE (Which is the key point!)

It could be a year or two before the traction Battery gets too low and dies. How’s not recommended to try unless in an unfortunate or unforeseen circumstances. One thing that is important and all of us should always do is when arriving at destination and if the hybrid Battery is low and engine kicks in to recharge it , we should not cut off but let the engine charge the Battery first , wait for it to turn off itself and then we can safely switch off the car and leave. This is to secure enough charge in case something happens and you won’t be able to drive for the next few months.
