I just picked up my Corolla 2020. As it is the Luna model it does not have maps, can these be added

I would imagine that unless you can transplant the map modules from either a Luna Sport or a Sol, I'd say it's Android Auto or CarPlay.

I would have thought Toyota has an addition to the software which could be entered via USB, has anyone experience of this

Usually Toyota mapping is via a separate module that is an addition to the multimedia unit, rather than just software.

As noted above embedded navigation is added via hardware not software:

Earlier cars with MM17 No Android auto / Apple carplay: http://www.toyota-tech.eu/aimuploads/00f31a2a-e560-43d7-a3ba-f649b272bb9c/Corolla_HB_TS_SD_RHD_Navigation_PW650_00044_AIM_004_380_3.pdf

Later cars with MM19 with AA/ACP: http://www.toyota-tech.eu/aimuploads/247ff818-47e5-445f-9048-83e297c71512/Corolla_HB_TS_SD_Touch_2_with_Go_RHD_PW650_00046_AIM_005_019_2.pdf

Parts wise prices are + £1000

Looks like I can forget that, and I can't use my trusty Garmin because it connected to my cigarette socket in my last car and the Coroller doesn't have one.

I could use the Maps on my phone if I can find somewhere to mount it

If you don't have a cigarette lighter socket on the luna (on my 2019 Excel it's in the centre cubby hole) you could try a USB to cig lighter socket adapter e.g.

If your Garmin is 5V you could try a universal power lead adapter
