EU considering a ban on a type of chromium plating ......

The EU seem to want to ban everything.

100w light bulbs used too much electricity, so these were banned. Now I have to use two 60w lightbulbs to produce a similar amount of light (and I now use more electricity).

Similarly, 1600w vacuum cleaners were too powerful and not eco friendly Using too much electricity). New vacuum cleaners are all less that 900w. This means I now vacuum for twice as long to get the same results.

What's next. Is living going to be banned because we breathe out too much carbon dioxide (or is it that we breathe in too much polluted air which is bad for us). Remember, life is a terminal disease (it's also sexually transmitted).

One of the comments in the Autocar article is gold

The London mayor is already asking his technical team if the ULEZ cameras could be programmed to measure the Chrome on vehicles for an additional charge on that. The science proves that Chrome causes 6000 deaths in the capital each year, probably, maybe, well it could. But consultation has revealed that taxed Chrome is far less toxic than untaxed Chrome.

No, not really. It's because I have only one light  fitting and SWMBO liked the design.

I did a bit of electro-plating during my apprenticeship.  Chromium plating was typically flash of copper, then nickel and finally the chromium plate.   I believe it is nickel plating that has been banned, which probably makes applying the chromium inferior or even technically impractical.

Regarding (mains electric?) light bulbs, our outside front door incandescent lamp was 60 watts.  I switched to an 8 watts bulb, and now brighter and demands less power.
