Glovebox Vibration Noise

IT Troll

I’ve started to notice some vibration noise coming from the glovebox on my Yaris Cross. If I give the door a prod it stops for a bit, but then returns. Anyone else finding the same?

I have a Yaris and although a brilliant car, the rattles are starting to get to me.  It seems that every panel seems to rattle to certain extent. Need to find time to start unscrewing things and fixing felt tape between the contact points.

You can buy little sticky backed buffers that you can put on vases etc as little feet to stop scratches etc. Same as on kitchen doors to stop banging shut. Try sticking them on the glove box to make it a tighter catch.

Less you play with the interior plastics less noises you will get.
Many of these are hard plastics and they tend to rattle at certain times and conditions like temperature fluctuations caused by direct sunlight or heating and ac. Glove box on these cars hasn’t got any lining inside to stop rattling noises from objects stored in and often this is the problem. I solved those with adding some paper envelopes placed top and bottom before I placed anything else and no rattling noises anymore, you can use a microfibre cloth too. Some people even buy felt material and glue it to the inside to make it plush like on more expensive cars. You will probably notice rattling from the door cards too, even a simple water bottle can make annoying rattling noises when placed in the door card. The seatbelt hook is the other thing that can drive you crazy, sometimes get stuck between the seat and the B pillar in a odd position and kills me. Another rattling is when you have any of the side windows half way open or less , lol these are the typical Toyota things. 👍

Yeah, so far the only rattly things in my Mk4 were the mystery thing in the driver-side door card (Which has fixed itself) and seatbelt buckles bouncing.

The rest of it has been very un-rattley, which is very unusual for a Yaris (My Mk1 and Mk2 both had the classic Yaris dash speaker grille rattle  ). I think the soft coating on the otherwise hard plastics helps.

Something in the centre console does creak sometimes, usually when I'm going round a corner a bit more 'enthusiastically' than I probably should. :whistling1:

Thanks for the ideas. I have some squidgy neoprene which I might try on the glovebox interior, along with some door buffers.

Fortunately my Mk3 Yaris is virtually rattle free after over 9 years. The only thing that did rattle, which took ages to pin down, is the OBD socket. A piece of strategically stuffed foam silenced that.

Unfortunately most cars' (certainly not isolated to Toyotas) trim etc. is held together by plastic clips rather than screws. No doubt to speed assembly and making it more difficult to disassemble. Resulting in a tendency to rattle/vibrate and broken clips.

As Tony writes, temperature has much to blame. e.g. If possible carry out any trim work in warmer weather, not wintertime.
