Hi, iam looking at an Avensis tourer 2012 D4D. It has done just over 80000 miles. Are any significant service tasks needed at that mileage?

Is that a mandated service item at that mileage? Just asking, because I have not seen any recommendation from Toyota regarding changing gearbox oil on these cars.

thats because the car will be out of warranty and they rather see the gearbox go bang so they can sell another one. there is no such thing as forever oil. my car has 56k on it and im changing my gearbox oil i want it to last as long as i can.

At 80k miles it won't be out of warranty under the Toyota Relax scheme (10 years / 100k miles). So I don't think they are deliberately not suggesting gearbox oil changes so they can sell new gearboxes!

I agree it is a good idea to change the gearbox oil at some point. I would like to know what Toyota recommend, which is why I was asking if you had anything from Toyota regarding changing gearbox oil at 80k miles.

not sure then is your car with 80k serviced at a toyota dealer as the toyota relax scheme only good if car was serviced at the right time threw a toyota dealer not ordinary garages

My car is only at 55k, so not at 80k yet. I continue to have it serviced at a Toyota dealer so that I have the benefit of the Relax warranty. There is nothing in the service schedule regarding gearbox oil changes. Which is why I was asking if you were basing your advice to change the gearbox oil at 80k miles on information from Toyota. But it is ok, it seems you were not.

Well when I bought my car at 38k was Toyota serviced until the guy I bought my car off serviced it for me before I got it so my car the relax warranty went when that happened plus I do my own servicing so must be gone and well I watch a guy that works on Toyota's all the time on YouTube Scotty kilmer he said that that lifetime gearbox oil is a biggest load of pish and IL be changing my gearbox oil as soon as I can I got genuine Toyota gearbox oil and my car is at 56k now

My wife car over 150k miles, never touch the gearbox, mine 30k on it work perfect, i read about it, this oil in the transmision of the toyota its like a cooling system not an oil like in the engine, thats why it can last, forever without touching it, if the gearbox fail, there is nothing to do with the oil, its malfuction inside the gearbox.

This is a lifetime oil. But, you can play with that and change it when ever you want.
