RAV4 Service Plan

My 2 year service plan is up for renewal once it goes in for its second service in September.

I currently pay £27 a month which seemed a tad high at time for a full and interim service but liked the convenience.  From memory there was no roadside cover either.

I have seen online there Is toyota cover plans that cover 2 year services and 2 years MOTs and include roadside cover.

Just wondered what type of plans people are getting on their cars if at all...

My roadside cover I have at moment has been great and it's buttons so not fussed but would save me £40 as renews same time as service if got it with plan anyway ( if my dealer includes that which I'm not convinced they do!)

I’ve always just done pay as you go. With the inflation rates being high I did wonder if a service plan would have been a better idea 2 years ago as the costs would be fixed pre inflation surge.

First year service was £213.98 , second year £419.99. Total £633.97. Your £27 per month works out at £648 so just slightly more than PAYG. But presumably service costs are not identical across the UK.

You are forgetting the second year's Roadside Assistance which should have been included in the Service Plan even if the OP didn't realise!

I go with the Service Plan for convenience - it costs no more and makes a potential saving. However, the inclusion of Roadside Assistance is rather confusing and I have just had a reminder from Toyota Roadside Assistance to renew my cover that expires next week even though cover is included in my monthly service plan. To be continued ...

According to the current info on Service Plans for a new car and from £27pcm you should get a three year plan that covers:

  • Three scheduled services - so two intermediates and one full.
  • One MOT test.
  • Two years of Toyota Roadside Assistance (in addition to the 12 months Toyota Roadside Assistance included within each new car purchase).

Following on from that you should be able to get a two year plan for £30 pcm that covers:

  • Two scheduled services - so one intermediate and one full.
  • Two MOT tests.
  • One year of Toyota Roadside Assistance (in addition to the 12 months Toyota Roadside Assistance included within each new car purchase) - which assumes that you purchased and approved used car. We'd probably have to pay for the second year's Roadside Assistance on top.

But in either case these days you have to buy from the dealer so ... 😉

So over 3 years a service plan costs £972 which includes 2nd and 3rd year roadside assistance plus MOT. Using my figures it would be £847 for 3 years servicing. ( that assumes next years service has not gone up ). So really service plan only of benefit it you want Toyota assistance.

My plan comes in at £835.92 for 3 years and is fixed, not sure how Toyota labour / parts costs have  / will increase over that 3 year period but I’m fairly happy with them taking it monthly in advance.

Me too! And that's the point - you don't get a discount with the service plan - you just pay in installments at the price applicable on the day that you took out the plan. You pay 'in advance' but are protected from inflation ...

If you sell the car, will Toyota refund any amount you have paid that has not been unused?

My other half just bought a CX-5 with a 3 year service plan and MOT and was advised any unused amount was refundable.

EMAC who administer the plan do refund any unused payments. You need to advise them asap that the plan is being cancelled.

Thanks all, for reference my cover has been with Startrescue costing me £35 a year for uk national and home start , not claimed but my wife has twice on her Hyundai and they have been fantastic!  You can save 12% on that price too via quido cashback.  Mine is up on 13th September the day after my booked in 2y service and module update.

Will be asking if I get roadside assistance with my plan ! Looked back at what it covered before and there is zero mention of it anywhere seems like it wasn't part of it despite toyota site looking like it should have been but I suppose a dealer can exclude it wish

Just for info. My dealership used to give me a discount when buying a plan. Now they don't!  They also charge £2 a month (£72 over 3 years) as a service charge for the plan and add over £30 to the cost of each service which they say is for fuel additives.

As a result I bought my service plan direct from the Toyota website. Car is still serviced by same people, using same parts (less fuel additive - I checked the invoice) for about £50 a year less than if I bought the plan through the dealership. Really cheeky IMO.

MOT would be discounted through dealers plan (£13 off) but I can get it for a lot less locally (£30) and they'll no longer price match other places so I take it elsewhere for an MOT.

Still a good lot at the dealership but have noticed a real shift in focus towards making as much money as possible. Another example is required work. Their price for pads and discs was £240 more (front and rear) than if I booked the work through Toyota's website. Really wrong and worth keeping your eyes on!!!

Oh dear...... looks like they've done away with that option. Can't find it now.  I took out a 3 year plan last year. Was also good because I could go to any Toyota dealership now you are in the hands of your local branch by the looks of things.

EMAC who administer the plan ...

Now here's a funny thing ...

I recently received a letter reminding me to renew my roadside assistance as it was about to expire. But my roadside assistance is paid for as part of my service plan and should run on through to late 2025. So I rang the roadside assistance folk to be told that they had no record of my plan or cover, and he put me through to EMAC.

The guy at EMAC knew about the service plan on my previous RAV but he had no record of my current car or any service plan - which seemed a little 'odd'.

So I 'phoned my dealership to be told that they can't find any record of my service plan either! This was getting rather weird as I have a service plan agreement, that includes roadside assistance, three MoTs and three services, and the money is leaving my account each month! I explained this to the service manger and he went off for a better look. He'd previously looked on the EMACS system and, apparently, my service plan is through eDynamix ...

I've left the dealership to sort out the mess! 😉

Good thing you investigated it would have been a real pain in the **** if you'd found out when you needed the roadside assistance.

  • 1 month later...

Wanted to update everyone on my service plan.

Car just dropped off and renewed service plan at £30 month.

No roadside assistance included but I was glad it wasn't built in as myself and wife have been with startrescue for 2 years and my renewal for tomorrow is £28.56! My wife has used it twice and they have been fantastic so I'm very happy with this.

My service plan at £30 with Toyota covers

Interim service £240

Full service £370

2 x MOT £54.85 x 2 = £109.70

£719.70 which is basically the £30 a month interest free but locks in price increases.   Happy with that.

Service in garage great as always, opened at 7am dropped car at 7.10, got a coffee, collected courtesy car and advised don't bother topping fuel up,  signed up for service plan and back out door for 7.30.

Full service and recall letter update sorted, car hoovered out for me as well I noticed.

Told them not to wash it as use my own stuff that's made it virtually contactless wash for me after years of trying different things! Hit 50 so getting on a bit 😆

Spotted a thread somewhere on a forum and what people were doing over winter months etc and went down a rabbit hole in it.

Effectively I ended up with this.

PUT ON CAR (don't wash down first) 1/8 MIX

ValetPRO Citrus Pre-Wash Cleaner... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0077C59GY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Using this with warm water bottom up.

Defenders All Ways Multi-Use Pump... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B077GFHSRH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Leave it 4 or 5 mins and put Snow Foam on top of it (not wash off first) and leave it for another 5 minutes

Then use a neutral Snow Foam currently using this 50/50 warm water

ValetPro pH Neutral Snow Foam 5... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N7VI6NU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Might look at different snow foams to see difference but wanted to keep it neutral with my toyota protect that's on car.

Then wash down with spray gun and finish with under chassis lance.

Only once have I had to apply the foam another time. Rest of time it's been fine zero sponge or 2 bucket. In winter was a blessing. Walk round car spraying that. Jump in house pop back out 5 min later, spray car,  go back in .. come back out and wash it down . Job done.
