Hello,

I have the habit of doing a quick inspection of the car whenever I wash it and found that the boots of the steering rack are torn how serious is it ? should I replace them and can they be replaced or they go together with the whole assembly ?

Thanks

It's not really dangerous but they do need to be replaced as soon as possible.

they are not missing they a rotted in half, replace asap - dirt and grime gets into the joints is a dead rack

iirc that is also an MOT fail

Well yes torn is the correct word I will amend the title, how much will this cost roughly ? Can the mechanic source ONLY the boots ?

Are you guys sure it looks torn ? can't it be stretched over the round/circular flange ? and then secured in place ?

It's split in two, yes you can get the boots most are Universal you cut to suit 5-10 euro each, 1-2 hours plus an alignment as rod ends aka track rod ends need to come off, maybe a tad more if the rod ends are worn or the boots are split

eg.
