CVT Fluid TC or FE

Hi

Just planning to do a partial CVT fluid change on my old 2013 Avensis, now owned by my daughter.

The car Handbook clearly specifies Toyota CVT TC fluid but the CVT Gearbox indicates, stamped on filler plug FE, FE fluid so am in a dilemma which to use. I have a feeling there was a change from TC to FE around 2013 so maybe the car handbook was for an earlier model.

Has anyone on here gone through the same exercise. If you could offer any advise it would be appreciated.

For anyone interested The Car Care Nut on YouTube has a good method of doing a partial flush on a CVT GB and setting the level at a set temperature. All looks straight forward but again if anyone can offer advice I'd  be grateful.

To achieve this a wire shorts out two pins in the OBB Port which drives the car into service mode when the ignition is switched on and a process followed until the CVT reaches temperature so the level can be set.

Thanks

Hi Paul,

I haven’t worked on Toyota cvt transmission and can’t give you an advice. For the oil though, best to buy from Toyota original automatic transmission fluid, they will know what type exactly and it will be same as it is now inside the car which will minimise any risk of mixing two types oils and cause foaming. Transmission fluid and coolant best practice is to stick to oem bought from a dealer, because these two almost impossible to replace entirely and always little amount will remain inside.
