What is this bolt used for? Toyota Yaris 1.33 2010

Hi there Yaris,

Don't think that is going to be the gearbox oil filler plug, so don't get trying to remove it! The filler plugs are usually located on the side of the gearbox housing NOT on top.

Being on the side means that you can only really add the correct quantity of oil before the fresh oil beings to flow back out of the filler hole at which point you stop knowing the oil level is right and then refit the filler plug. Refilling or topping up is done on level ground too.

Sure that others with more direct experience of your vehicle will pitch in on this for you.

Hi well, you're not going to like me for this but I already have. This was before I checked online and so I filled up the gearbox using this hole. When i opened this bolt it looked like it went into the gearbox because i saw all the cogs and after i filled it up approximately 1.9litres i could feel oil by sticking my finger into the opening of the side hole which i now know is the filler hole. Car so far seems to run fine no issues reported but hopefully I havent screwed it up.

Fill is on the back, drain is on the bottom, the large nut is removed when you have the MMT actuators

the gearbox is 1.7L drain and fill, over filling can be as bad as not enough, it can result in it blowing the oils seals and not lubricating the gears correctly
