Buying a MK1 D-4D

Hi all, I'm looking for a mk1 1.4 D-4D but it seems hard to find one without serious erosion or rust (understandably with its age and the metals used in JDM cars)

few questions;

Can erosion and rust be removed/coated so it no longer rusts

What's the maximum mileage I should go for ?

Would re-mapping it to 90bhp effect engine reliability?

If I found one with trims are alloys expensive to fit?

If anyone is selling one please let me know

Thanks in advance 😀

Yeah they were already rare to begin with when I had one; Finding one that's been looked after will require luck and patience at this point!

Cars can always be repaired - You can paint rust converter onto rusty bits, or cut it out and weld in new metal if it's too far gone, but it'll cost a good chunk of money to restore it; Whether it's worth the money to you is the tricky bit...

Most people don't do a lot of preventative maintenance to cars these days as it costs money they don't need to spend, esp. as cars are treated as disposable items; The government hasn't helped by encouraging this behaviour by increasingly penalizing people with older cars in the name of the environment/pollution/the children/etc. .

A few people on this forum chipped theirs to 90HP back in the day and didn't seem to incur problems, but I suspect they didn't have the cars long enough for problems to develop. I must admit, I'd be wary of doing it to an engine of that sort of age!

You can easily get some alloys for it and have them fitted; Again will cost money tho'.

If you're doing this because you really like Mk1 D4Ds, then go for it, but if you're doing this to save money, I'd look at something else; Most Mk1s will have rusted out their subframes by now unless the owner coated them, which almost nobody with a Yaris does, and repairing it will likely cost more than the car is worth!

I must admit I'm still very bitter at KHAAAAN! and his damned MoneyEZ zone, as I had to sell my otherwise perfectly fine Mk1 D4D purely to avoid being shaken down for 3+ grand a year by that scumbag.
