I once ran into the back of a car at the traffic lights, a dwarf jumped out and said “ I’m not happy “ I said “ well which one are you then “ ….

A bit like the retirement age for women - they didn't expect it to be the same as men.

Surely that suggests the new rules have had an effect. Most comparison site results are for people looking to change insurer, so if the 'new customer' deals are removed prices will rise.

Edit. Just turned the page and @Lawnmowerman has already said it (I think).

I heard on BBC Radio 4 the other day that premiums have risen by 40 percent on average in the last 12 months.

Not uncommon when the economy is tanking for a bifg rise.

Good point and fingers crossed in a way a good thing because the insurance company one is with will not hike their prices up to silly amounts each year now? we can but hope! so not so much jumping on GoCompare every year.

There's actually a BBC news article this morning:

Car insurance hits £500 a year for average UK driver

I think its higher, but thats anecdotal and I suspect that numer will only go up as people renew. For example my Hyundai i30 last year was ~£480 to insure. 9 years old, 15k miles a year. I got some bells and whistles added to that such as Breakdown Cover, Courtesy Car, Protected NCB etc.

I've just run my YX through a couple of the comparison sites, for a completely vanilla comprehensive policy @ 15k/year I'm getting back £598 or something daft and if I want the same bells and whistles its going upto £900.

image.thumb.png.f1863546fd7e17ae8af4ab02bc7aa495.png

The BBC article cites 'energy costs', 'repair costs', 'labour costs', so inflation basically.
Be nice if I got a payrise at inflation+% to help cover these additional 'costs' grumble grumble.

Well, just been hit by Churchill!

I swapped from my Citroen C3 to the Yaris last month and there was a small refund (less than £10) on the insurance cost.  Annual on the Citroen was £260.

Renewal for September arrives today at approx £360 with no explanation.  Gocompare listed a lot of alternatives.  LV= was approximately the same price (with legal aid, hire car, protected bonus).

The cheapest was FLOW - so I did a look-up on it because (a) it was a lot cheaper and (b) never heard of them.  They had high Trust Pilot and other scores.

Looked OK, full comp, legal aid, hire car, protected bonus, 180 days European cover (!) all for . . . . . £260 - two named drivers, clean licences, no claims, otherwise boring, Cambridgeshire.

And FLOW is owned by . . . LV= 🤔

All online and no additional charges for amendments etc.

Done deal!

Just completed insurance quote searches on the usual comparison sites and discovered that my annual premium has increased by at least 40%. To make matters worse, the cheapest quotes that I have received are from companies that I’ve never heard of.  My wife finished her long employment recently and now joins me in retirement.  We no longer have to insure our car for commuting to and from work and naively thought our premium would reduce slightly as we now only need it for social purposes.  Spoke to my daughter who lives in Australia this morning and it’s a similar scenario over there.  Her premiums have gone up by 38%.  On of my neighbours cheapest quote was nearly a 50% increase, so prepare yourselves for the next dreaded renewal.

Forgot to say that this was a speculative search as I’ve still to receive a renewal notice from my present insurer.  Hopefully, I might get a better result but should find out over the next few days.

With regard to insurance price rises here's a thought. Early this year a truck skidded into my Yaris X on a snowy day while it was parked. Churchill Insurance put me in touch with an independent car hire company called Auxilis and told me this was part of the repair package they also guided me to a repairer that was part of their company Direct garages or something like that. When I took my car in for a damage assessment and asked if I could have a courtesy car I was told that one was very difficult to source and that it would add to repair time if that was what I wanted besides they added a hire car was already organised by Auxilis. Having thought a bit I decided to accept the hire car but the cost for the two weeks while my car was bing repaired according to the contract they sent me was about £1600. Its not surprising that Insurance premiums are going up if this sort of practice is happening.

Yes I too have been on the comparison sites, beam, ( no, I’ve not heard of them either, but it’s backed by the aa) want 299, saga, 400+, I’ve had an email from direct line explaining how my insurance is calculated,it’s almost like they are saying your insurance is due, you’d better sit down, I may have to sell one of my kidneys, still, it’s nice to know the execs of these insurance companies are getting six and seven figure salaries plus bonuses, our insurance has to go up to cover these costs….😡

Beam are an insurance broker, rather than an insurer.

Yeah the at-fault insurer just gets taken to the cleaners - The bill for my Mk4's new rear end was about £4500 ( ) and there was a month of car rental on top of that. They should be grateful I didn't try and claim for whiplash injury too, like so many people falsely do!

The funny ones is where the at-fault and claimant insurers are related or even the same company - They try all sorts of stuff to try and lower the bill that they wouldn't do if it was a competitor!

Problem with these accident management companies like Auxilis, is that the at fault insurer can contest the car hire costs - and usually there is a contract clause leaving the insured person who has had the hire car ultimately responsible for any sum between what the insurer will pay and the hire costs.

Yeah, what happened to insurance companies dealing with all aspects of a claim instead of passing things out to these parasite companies

Pure supposition but I wouldn't be surprised if, at the highest level, there's all sorts of "cross-connections" between the Directors and high execs.

Always remember that the fundamental purpose of a business is to......MAKE MONEY.

Now going way off topic!  My favourite wines have also gone up by similar amounts.  Chilean Malbec wine has gone up by 30% and Chilean Pinot Noir has increased by 50% in the last week.  That’s from “This is not just any wine, this is from ?? wine.  Seems like the international money people are working on a 30% to 50% increase on everything.  I know this is a Toyota Yaris forum but thought I could give a rant on something that might be of interest to other Toyota Wine connoisseurs.

Dont confuse cheap with good quality wine kits range from £30 to £80 for 30 bottles and they are highly rated, obviously the more you pay the better the end product.
