Toyota CHR 2018 and Iphone

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been posted before, I tried to look for it but didn't find anything. I recently bought a CH-R 2018 and every time I start the car I have to connect my iPhone 13 with the audio system. My partner has a Samsung S22 and it connects automatically. Is there something I can do to avoid this hassle please?

My car is a C-HR 2021 and my iPhone is a 4SE.  I have no problems with the phone connecting to the car - my problem is that, if I use the phone, the person at the other end can hear me, but I can’t hear them.    I feel sure that it is something that I have, or have not, done correctly - I just don’t know (yet?) what that something is.

This may sound like an odd question, but is the volume on the phone (not the car) turned up?

@Big_D yes it is, not sure if it is relevant though as once I connect the two, there is no problem with the sound.

Yes, volume on phone was turned up.  I do have to watch this because, when switching phone off, in pressing r/h side button, the volume buttons on l/h side are in line, and accidentally “squeezing” these needs to be avoided.

Would “volume on the car” be the same knob on the infotainment system that controls radio volume?  Or is there another control for this when using phone?

The reason I asked about the phone volume, was that I had a similar issue with my 2020 C-HR. While I'm working, I turn the volume of my phone down. I used to forget about this and couldn't hear the other party in my car. I don't know if a software update was done when my car went for a service, but this seemed to resolve itself.

@Big_D no unfortunately in my case its a matter of connection, the audio system does not remember the phone. Thank you for your reply though.

What does this actually mean? Do you need to re-register your iPhone from scratch?

I don't know what is 'wrong' but would suggest either:

  • Your iPhone isn't properly registered - delete it and register it correctly, or
  • There is something about the iPhone that is causing the issue - i.e. it is the phone that won't automatically reconnect.

Edit: also check the navigation system manual and ensure that auto connection mode is set for the iPhone ... 😉

The system should automatically reconnect with the smartphone with the highest priority of those that are visible nearby. Only one 'phone can connect at a time.

You may find the iPhone 13 is not compatible in some way. Have you updated maps/audio software recently?

The built-in Nav map updates also carry software to update audio for newer phones etc.
