Go Go Juice!

For the first time ever yesterday I filled up and on driving out of the petrol station thought "wow, more power"

I use Esso Super plus. I always use it. I don't like optimax (its rubbish :P ) and there are no local Bp's.

last time I filled up the car (mr2, uk spec, rev 2) I used regular unleaded, towards the end of the week as they were out of super (again) that was over a month ago (not been driving much lately) so the fuel was probably pretty old when I got it, and had been sitting in my car for ages..

Last night on the way to the reading meet I filled up as the fuel light was on... super plus, complained as usual as the fuel pump kept on switching off when filling the car, untill it was full where it kept running and got fuel all down the side of my car and on my other half's new shoes  drove out after giving up complaining to the gentleman that barely spoke english and ended every sentance with "please" (thankyou please sir). To my suprise the car really pulled better, no doubt about it... there was no "psycological" advantage that is often evident when you try various octane boosters etc, it was black and white, it pulled well, even at a high gear at slow speeds!!

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this? what fuels do you use??? (don't say optimax )

I generally just use bog standard juice.

When am feeling generous she gets special juice. Super unleaded or optimax whatevers about really. ;)

Dont think its necessary to do it all the time for N/A but good sometimes to clean the bits up. :D

Ive used Optimax pretty much ever since buying my car (a year ago).

Always found it fine and get great fuel economy. Plus the Shell garage is just around the corner from my house.

funny u should mention this now. last weekend i went to my bro's in dorset. 232 miles away! and it cost a lot in fuel, a full tank and a bit going down there. anyway filling up to go home i had to use an esso station - i normally boycott esso and bp as per those emails that went out after the last petrol blockade.

i used esso super - at 88.9p a damn litre mind - !Removed! southerners! and i caned it back home, to get to work. at 6pm i was in a traffic jam at stonehenge, at 9pm i was at work in wakefield.

!Removed! good stuff that esso. i did notice more response than my usual optimax, or sainsburys super.

will use it again. :D

Apparently with imports it's more advisable to use super unleaded, but I reckon this is just for performance. I wouldn't have thought using normal would do any damage.

it wont do any damage (unless youre knock sensor is knackered) but it will limit the max boost you can run at. I use optimax or total super unleaded which is apparently 98 RON according to what it says on the white sticker. Seems to give the same performance but i get better mileage with optimax.

my Shell garage vanished and turned into a jet garage !!

That the problem with optimax, it "goes off" very quickly, it says 98 RON on the pump, in reality its probably closer 95 by the time your tank is empty, or by the time it gets in your car!!!

AS Deus said running a RON thats too low could causee detting, byr byr turbo engine., at best the car runs with a retarded igntion at a power loss.
